With the signing of C Jake Grove, the Dolphins have made it clear that they are not satisfied with the play of Samson Satele at center. So, do you think that the coaching staff feels that Satele can be better at guard or that he just isnt a fit with their style of offensive line??

If he just isnt a fit, what do you think the chance is that we could trade him to the Ravens (since Cam Cameron drafted him and they just lost their starting center in Jason Brown)??

Usually, you lose a round or so of value in a trade like this. Example: when we traded our 3rd round pick Lorenzo Booker a year later, we received a 4th round pick in return.

I would be for trading Satele for a 3rd or possibly 4th round pick...now that we have added Grove, Berger and will be getting Donald Thomas back. Also, having Ndukwe and Alleman getting good game experience last year...and dont forget that we invested a 4th round pick in Shawn Murphy last year as well.

With all of these options...to me it makes sense to trade Satele for a 3rd or 4th to Baltimore or anyone else that might be interested!!

I think Satele just had a bad year. His rookie season went very well. I think we have yet to see the best playing days for Samson.

Maybe they're just adding more players they feel can contribute. Last season showed there were some depth problems on the O-line. Surely Satele is worth keeping as he has experience at both centre and guard and isn't terrible at either?

A year ago everybody seemed to love Satele and saw him as a player with great potential (even though he was on a 1-15 team). Now, that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Was he really SO bad last season?

Keeeeeep him. Why trade him away when we would be back to last year with no oline depth. Samson was playing through an arm injury last year, and had inexperienced guards playing on either side of him for a decent part of the year. He can come in and immediately contribute when (not if) someone goes down on our line, and during a rotation to let a guy rest.

Why the hate for Satele? After his rookie season, people loved him. Now, after 1 down year, people want him cut or traded!

Depth is what we need on the O line, and gettin rid of him is pointless. Injuries were a big factor last year, & I think we need three or 4 good centre/guard's on the roster to back up the starting guys.

Keep him.

Satele was not dominanat and had a very poor year (injury or not).... its the truth!!! so, bring in people to challenge him and battle him... its his spot right now to keep or lose. its not like Satele can't bulk up, work hard, keep his spot and have a great '09... dont trade him... he is a decent youth right now!!! see what happens this off-season and into the season!!!

1) Murphy has to learn the game. He's a project & should begin to contribute this year. if he's not up to speed they'll get rid of him in 2010. no one can knock them all out of the ball park every time at bat. however, just too early to judge Murphy. I think he'll pan out.
2) Satele has a tremendous upside. what he'll have to do is become a gym rat, get bigger & stronger to fit in to the Parcells' mold of an offensive linesman. all very possible, even probable. nothing is decided on paper they must compete for the position. the weak will go to the wall & serve as draft or trade bait to further team interest :D

He is definitely trade bait, but if we keep him, he will be a solid G for us, either starting or depth. Thomas, Smiley, Satele, Ndukwe is a pretty awesome guard corps. You could have both starters go down again and be much better off this time around.

Ndukwe sucks.

Simple statement if We signed Grove to all this money obviously its a sign that Satale is not looked upon that favorably. if he cannot handle center , guard will probably be even less successful for him.

Samson fits the scheme which is what we are about right now zone players not road graders like under Sporano. This why Hickey picked James so high in the draft, not because he was rated so highly as a player but because he was one of the very few players that fit the scheme available in this years draft. What I do like about Samson is that he was willing to play hurt for us which shows desire. If Benton is any good as a OL coach he will get the most out of him. Many of you might forget this is probably a make or break year for Philbin with the Phins if improvement is not seen now that the scapegoat Ireland is gone. A Oline of Albert, College, Samson, Turner, James with Gardener, Smith, Thomas, Brenner,, Fox is about as good as we can do for now and thats what the NFL is all about NOW. If this was a rookie team with a rookie coach then the status quo would have been alright but Samson being here now give Ryann T and Philbin a better chance than they had yesterday.

Indy ran a zone heavy running game. He ranked 31 for centers..

That could be true as I do not follow Indy but when we drafted Samson in the 2nd round it was because of the offense we were running that year which was based on pass first then run which is also why Samson was traded later when Sporano showed up and wanted to focus on the running game. Does anyone have Samsons stats as a center and how he ranked each year for the last 8 years?
