I like the Feeley/Lemon trade.

For San Diego, they get a fire-tested veteran QB who can now be a valuable #2 QB for them. Now they can get on with preparing Feeley, and prepare to trade Rivers. More than likely Rivers and Lemon were not content to have no chance of playing for the Chargers unless Brees gets hurt. Brees and Feeley ran a QB camp together in the off-season.

For Miami they jettisoned Feeley's cap number and a player emblematic of the Wannstedt days. They get Lemon, who when given a chance, might be the next Culpepper/McNabb/McNair/Moon. Who knows? Lemon should be able to give the defense a good look for upcoming scrambling QB's like Vick, on the practice squad. Lemon is supposedly very charismatic.

Meanwhile this is just another trade between old trading buddies Miami and San Diego. It is smart for Miami to stay on good terms with the Chargers as we may want to talk about Rivers next off-season. Since the Chargers have already absorbed Rivers' signing bonus, plus they have groomed him from the sidelines for two years, his value is greater than almost any college QB in the draft.

So I see a win/win trade with both teams looking to their futures while cleaning out their locker rooms. The 6th round pick to the Chargers must have been the appropriate compensation as both sides examined all aspects of the deal which says alot about what both sides think of the possibilities for Lemon.

Feeley is more of a WC guy. Which is interesting, since he's a terrible decision-maker, but I guess if he's just chucking it to RBs, he'll be ok.

As mentioned before, Lemon is a guy we must have targeted. You don't stumble into giving a 6th round pick away.

Feeley was a bust. Officialy. It's over. He was. I like what I saw of Lemon, but I want to see more. He's not going to be able to step in and read a first string NFL defense. But Meuller is a great QB guy and has pulled some diamonds in the rough before.

No way we are trading away our first rounder so forget about Rivers.

Hmmm..

Why is it that you compared him to these 4 guys??

I don't understand why people bring this fact up. Our roster already had something like 50% turnover from last year. So it was clear this is the Saban era. Feeley was a bust, plain and simple. If Saban thought the kid was good enough to keep around he would have regardless if he was a holdover from the Wanny days.

This is nit picking. I think overall it was a great post and I completely agree with you in terms of it being good for both teams.

Better that we're trading with San Diego now instead of Chicago. San Diego has gotten fairly good recently.

Maybe it has something to do with the colour of his skin?

I dont understand why everytime there is a black QB, people have to say hes the next McNabb or Culpepper, instead of comparing him to other QBs based on his skills or playing style.

He could be the next Jake Plummer, only faster and with a better vertical. ;)

AW C'mon Jnaledu. They are all great QB's. Lemon should be so lucky to be mentioned with them. Linehan knows Culpepper real well, maybe it's deja vu....
Jnaledu!

;)

mike ditka/wanny(gm's) = harry/lloyd (dumb&dumber)

give ricky his stash back man..rivers is totally worth our 1st round pick, as long as its not a top ten pick..i'd pull the trigger..the most i'd want them to give up is.....mmmmm....say the 1st rounder combined with a 4th, packaged with a 4th next year..maybe a 3rd..i know it seems like alot, in fact it is alot..too much for reality to justify, but on these boards its just what it is...how might i say it..uhh blah blah blah blah blah..blah..blah...i love hypotheticals...you cant go wrong, unless of course, you make such an ignorant statement that everyone discredits your words...and no one would do that here, would they?

lol
ask yo shelf,
what would wanny/ditka do?
;) :) ;) :) ;( :( and one mo foe the road.... :)

I actually like the Lemon trade. He's young, has a good arm, isnt all that fast straight-line but he seems to have good pocket footwork, and showed himself to be pretty dang accurate in the preseason (against 3rd stringers, fine...but he completed like 70% i think, i dont care who you're playing, thats pretty good). I'm not saying he's gonna be a superstar right away, he may not even start, but i think he has the potential to maybe be something in the future if Linehan can mold him into his system. The extra pick we gave up was a bit much, but i think still its worth getting a young QB with potential and clearing Feeley's big contract off our books to help our potential FA bonanza next yr.

Especially when the QBs he mentioned don't have the nearly the same styles. Mcnabb is much more of a pocket passer than Vick for example. True they can all scramble but they definitely shouldn't be grouped together.

Totally agree with you! Lets see what this kid can do. At best he could be our starting Qb, at worse he will be a back-up. And he only cost us a late round draft pick.
