Please stop with the posts about Satele moving to guard. IF he is too small and getting pushed around at center how in the heck is he going to be a beast at guard. This makes no sense. This OL requires beats at guard to move guys back. Satele is getting crushed in the middle. How is he going to be effective at guard when he weighs probably closer to 280-285lbs. No way is this guy 300lbs+.

The message we keep hearing is to get Bigger and Faster. How many teams have a 285lb guard?? Even if he got up to 300lbs he is still too small and certainly not strong enough.

He is a backup because of his experience and low salary and that is about it.

i think his speed would make him a good guard. he isnt a bad center. he was great his rookie season, the more coaching he gets the better. the more he heels from his injury the better. i think he would be a good C, but a very good guard as well. idk if he is the best for our system but he is a good player and would be a valuable starte in other systems, not that he isnt in ours.

First, I agree. But secondly, he "is" 300 LBS. FO has told him to gain 10-15 LBS. In other words, they want him at 310-315 LBS. But I agree that he is not starting at G. But he should be a backup G/C. But yeah, he's 300 LBS, now.

I could be wrong but wasn't Satele a G at Hawaii? I remember when we drafted him being excited because he was allegedly a versatile player who could play almost any position on the line.

i agree satale had not bad but inconsistent yr.

lets look at it overall

rookie season superb - we were talking about centre for next 10 yrs.

2 nd season syndrome with nagging injuries throughout the latter of year and i agree he was inconsistent and at times weak and pushed around, especially 2nd patriots game, which is the one which really started the ball rolling.

Satale played superbly in first game against Wilfork this yr and the threads were raving about him and the wildcat. Then after second game wilfork i agree threw him about. Then it was all Wilfork was not fit at start of yr, but we forget satale was carrying nagging injury too in sec game.

Dont get me wrong i agree satale was weak at times but overall, two season i believ we have sean 1 1/2 gd seasons out of young fast potentially superb centre.

Question is - if the two games against the Patriots were revered and satale stunk in first game and then turned it around would we still be questioning him as future centre, or tlking about how well he improved and how he could be future?????????

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was. June Jones used to rave about how he'd be a top performer at the NFL level.

I'd agree with that, especially if we get either a C in the draft or Jason Brown from Baltimore.

they can beef him up, he's got versatility (experience @ Guard & Center), disposition & youth
let them compete for all starting positions the proof is on the Gridiron & every season is a new year & opportunity

I love it 2 years ago all the fans read the press scripts and Satele was a great pick future all pro and made Mueller a draft genuis for trading Chambers for that pick. Now a different set of press clippings and they are ready to throw Satele under the train. Forget how tough the guy was the first year root canels and all, then this year playing on 1 leg between 2 backup guards. Take into consideration he was drafted for a mobile run and shoot offensive to make plays on the run instead of running between the tackles and here you go the guy is all washed up.

No.. he was a C

He actually played a little LT as a freshman, and LG the next two years. Only his senior season did he play C. With the offense that Hawaii ran, he pretty much pass-blocked every down, which is why I think he struggles going against those bigger NTs - he just doesn't have the experience.

To the original post, he'd be great fit at C in a Denver, Atlanta, or Indy - like zone blocking scheme where he can get out and pull, and play in space. He was very effective at this in 2007 in Cam Cameron's offense; which is why there is potential to move him to G, his natural position, and if Justin Smiley isn't able to mend quickly enough, Satele would be depth there. He's also athletic enough to pull and lead on screens, sweeps, Wildcat plays, etc. - which is probably why they'd also ask him to bulk up, not only would it help him if he remains at C, but he'd be better served at G at that weight as well (see Donald Thomas, Justin Smiley, and Andy Alleman - all of whom are 310lbs or higher).

i'd personally look to trade satele to a zone blocking system team. i'd rather have the potential and upside of a draft pick over a depth player at guard or backup center who's undersized for what we want to do on offense.

in any other team is at best back up
