Chad goes down early in the season, who do you want stepping in as the QB? Personally Id want Josh McCown stepping in. Hes proving to be a decent backup, hes a vet, has a good arm, and is mobile. Henne has no business playing early in the season(no this doesnt have anything to do with his game saturday). Obviously by the way the front office is handling him, Beck has no business playing period.

Now, if its later in the season and we are out of contention(yes i believe we still have a chance :woot:), and they believe Henne wouldnt be running around like a chicken with his head cut off, then play Henne.

The only reason i bring this up is because i think not playing McCown is a mistake, hes new to. Like it or not Chad is really injury prone and if he goes down and Henne goes in and plays it could be disasterious.

The Jets should have kept ahold of Pennington, regardless of how disgruntled he would have been as a backup.

At the very least, they should have traded him somewhere for a conditional 7th in 2010 or something. To let him go to a division rival sorely in need of a competent qb is just mismanagement.

I agree without Pennington this team is not effective on offense. But I disagree with anyone being a better option of what's left, they all suck about the same at this point behind Pennington.

Thats not the only issue though, i believe you have to protect Henne if he isnt truely ready. If he comes in over McCown and plays like dog ****, there could be reprecussions for that.

We saw that last year.................But Sparano and Parcells are NOT cumeron and mule'er

Keeping in mind that last year I was very much against putting John Beck out there until he absolutely looked like the best man for the job (and I never got that feeling, the entire year)...I would not mind Chad Henne going out there in the event of a Chad Pennington injury.

On the same principle. He genuinely looks like the best man for the job. I've seen Beck play, I've seen McCown play, I've seen Henne play. Between the three of them, Henne looks the best right now. He is the least susceptible to being rattled by pressure, his passes are the most on target of the three, and he's very aware of down and distance conditions...even though I'm not positive he's got a great grasp on the clock.

From what I know about Chadwick, he would not have been disgruntled. He was classy last year when he was benched and was also very supportive.

The Jets had to get rid of him simply from a salary cap standpoint. They spent a ton of dough this off season and got themselves rubbing up on the cap to where taking on Favre's eight figure salary figure required they cut Pennington in order to fit the thing.

I really don't know what they are going to do. Beck and McCown haven't been getting much work lately and I don't know if Henne is ready:unsure: Might have to say screw it and put Henne out there. I liked Beck but now I am worried he hasn't had enough work in the off season with this system and that is if he isn't traded.

I was 100% for bringing Chad in when he was released, and his play on the field has solidified my initial gut reaction. Chad can make throws and KNOWS how to utilize his receivers, thus making the entire offense better. Imagine the confidence someone like Hagan will have if Chad can open up his game resulting in a couple of 100 yard plus games..

I think we NEED to keep McCown as our 2nd string, especially if we play competitively through the start of the season. Yes we are rebuilding but with Chad at the helm, Ricky and Ronnie rushing and improved OL and DL play, we can finish .500 or better. And the last thing we need is another Ray Lucas-like meltdown from the backup QB position. And we know that McCown, while not a great or even good QB, can be a caretaker, a stop-gap solution if Chad gets injured. I'll take that over Mr. Fumble and Henne, who really needs a full year on the bench before playing.

Obviously from a skill point of view id agree. He looks like the best QB of the 3, BUT he is still a rookie. And he still hasnt seen that speed jump that will be there when the first teams are on the field. Id just rather go the year without him playing just because that fact.

But, like you and someone else said, i have faith in this front office. if he plays, he must be looking completely ready.
