Schefter was just asked on Mike and Mike if he thought there would be a coaching change in Miami, and he answered "I'm leaning no" and went on to say that he can't give a definitive answer now.
Schefter isn't perfect, but this confirms my fears that a 9-7 finish will save Philbin's job. Being that TECHNICALLY we're still alive for the playoffs, I can't root for a loss on Sunday, but I do not want this guy back, he defines mediocrity. If Philbin could have pulled out just one of the four tough, big games we played against top competition this year (GB, DET, DEN, BAL) I'd feel differently, but he's shown a complete inability to win in a big spot... How terrible we were in the 2nd half the last 2 weeks has been especially damning.

Sounds funny...IF this team plays hard and fundamentally sound and goes 9-7, I do think he comes back. I agree with Schefter.

Philbin definitely has something to still play for. It's not even about going 9-7 or 7-9 . . . if people really thinks that matters then they are mistaken. It's more about how this team plays and have they quit on this coach. You can't come out the next 2 weeks and play the way you've played the previous 2 weeks. You have to show some ability to change, even when the bigger picture is bleak.

Where I'm torn is, I really think Hickey deserves a better fate and I'm not so sure a big time head coaching candidate would be comfortable with having him in place and I'm not qualified to know if Hickey has the respect to reel in a big named coaching prospect.

I know fans definitely don't want to hear this, but Ross should put his feelers out there and if he doesn't get any bites he probably should just ride this group out one more season. They definitely should of did a better job, but I blame a BIG portion of how we collapsed down the stretch to injuries and just overall lack of depth from the bumblings of the last GM.

And I know it sounds redundant because it seems like we say this with every coach/GM/staff since god knows when, but if they fail to get it accomplished next season, you can part ways with all of them, including the QB with 1 year left on his contract. This year is not the year to give to a new GM salary cap wise as Ireland has hamstringed us for 3 years and next year will be that third year. After next year you can cut/not resign everybody . . . Wheeler/Hartline/Wallace/Ellerbe/Tannehill etc. This year you are pretty much telling a new GM, here is your team and here is a little bit of money.

I'm just sayin, it makes a lot of sense and it gives Hickey another chance to put together a nice draft and allow this years picks to develop, not much money to effect the cap for a future GM if necessary and gets the team healthy and gives a without a doubt picture of where we are headed. We do it this year I can see a hodgepodge and I'm done with hodgepodging a new GM with an old coach or vice versa .

Hmmm.....I'm leaning the other way. I'm thinking Ross is going to make a change.

Nothing to back that up....just a hunch.

And for the record I'm indifferent to the whole thing . . . if we part ways with Philbin I'm cool and if we keep him I'll be ok with that as well. I just feel keeping things in place is the surest way to make sure you find out if you keep Ryan Tannehill as a Miami Dolphin on a big time second contract, because that decision needs to happen relatively soon and IMO it's not as easy as saying "yes he's our future". Honestly, I haven't seen enough to say, "Here Ryan, here is 7 years and 130 million". Development, sure, but tying my wagon to him at that price . . . . ehhhhh, I wanna see some more leaps, specifically when it comes to making plays down the field. Draft the kid a big target and get this oline finished and lets put no doubts into it.

Agree with you on Philbin....understand you on RT, but you may not have a choice.

You pick up his 5th year option and that buys you another year (albeit at a high price) to continue to evaluate. The risk is, he continues to improve and his price goes up when the time comes for a long term deal. However if that does happen, I think the Phins would be thrilled to pay it.

Stephen Ross is either the dumbest billionaire on the planet, or the smartest. He brings back Philbin, the fans will be canceling ticket packages in protest. Excitement will be down, some fans will tune out, etc. No one believes in Joe Philbin.

What Ross hasn't done, is tip his cap on making a move.

Well, if Philbin is back tons of fans will be leaning back at home not wanting to go see this team in person. Ross has to make the change and if that means Hickey is gone then so be it.

I'm leaning "no" too, but it really comes down to the final 2 games and how this team responds to he coaching staff.

Disapointing thought but not surprising. If they lay down these last two games maybe but if they play hard, regardles of the games final outcome, I'm betting Philbin gets a pass.

Miami is better than Minnesota and NYJ but Miami took a severe punch to the gut the last 2 weeks and I can see them losing both games b/c of it. If that happens he is gone. If they rebound and finish 9-7 it will suck for you guys to miss the playoffs but I think he should stay for 2 reasons:

1- winning these last 2 games may seem meaningless w/o the playoffs but after losing the way they did the last 2 weeks and ending their playoff hopes it would show me something if he could get them to rebound and win these last 2. Minnesota is playing pretty good football and while we suck we will be dangerous week 17 w/ the team trying to send Rex out w/ a W.

2-while Ryan is not a top QB and never will be he has shown me enough to think he can be a good QB in this league. He has improved each year and a regime change means a 3 system in 3 years which isn't good for a still young and developing QB.

This is the way I am leaning also.

Honestly this is how most objective fans should feel about him. I have seen some good things and some bad things. He has gotten better, but needs to continue to improve.

Unforntuately I agree with this. He can win but the rest of the team as to be very good. He will never be a quarterback that could carry a team.

Not many QBs can carry a team, that's not really something you should be worried about. the question is can you win w/ him? that is still TBD but he has improved.
