I was just reading Adam Schefter's Best and Worst top 10 picks and noticed his slight comments knocking Ricky Williams.

http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9385975

"Best: Running back Edgerrin James -- How many people are still wondering how the Colts could ever draft Edge over Ricky Williams?"

"Best: Quarterback Donovan McNabb -- How many people are still wondering how the Eagles could go for McNabb over the fans' choice, Ricky Williams?"

"Where would the Colts be today had they gone ahead and selected Ryan Leaf and Ricky Williams?"

I understand Ricky has his problems, and is fighting off his current situation with the league. Yeah Ricky sat out two seasons ago, but that doesn't put him in the same level as Ryan Leaf. Ricky seems to have straightened out his life and has rebounded well this previous season.

Whether McNabb or Edge was a better pick is moot now and cant really be predicted. In a different situation than the Saints and here during the Wanny era Ricky may not have made the same decisions. Regardless, I feel it is a bit much to knock Ricky when he is turning his career/life around and has a good chance of winning his appeal. but that is just my opinion.

Go Phins!

But he's right. Those two players, overall, served their teams better than Ricky would have. We may love Ricky and he may be a great running back, but he is a bit of a mess.

How is that a cheap shot?

Exactly.......I mean, how did the Ricky selection work out for the Saints anyway?? Best thing that they can say about him is that they were able to trade him for 2 1st round picks.....but that still doesn't make up for all the picks that Ditka gave up to get him.

He's right.. It wasnt a smart move to trade their entire draft for Ricky..

Exactly, how many pro-bowl QB's has gotten to play with? ...NONE

Comparing a QB to a RB? That's just damn stupid

:yeahthat:

Ricky may have not worked out for the Saints. They didnt help the situation in that draft by trading all their picks and only getting Ricky. It could kinda be compared to Harrington's situation in Detroit, being brought in to be the man and the pressure may have to much.
But since coming to Miami Ricky has been a very good player for us for the most part. Those comments about Edge and Mcnabb may be fitting since they havent had any serious bumps in the road.

Anyways, my main thing about this article is Schefter using Ricky as an example three times. The last comparison to a quarterback who was a bust is the worst. Ricky may have had a bumpy road in his career but he is no bust.

He does seem to want to use RW as the battering ram on this one, but seriously, knowing then what we know now, I'd have taken Edge over Williams too. While Edge is a bit excentric as well, he's overall a slightly better back than RW (his pass catching ability puts him slightly above RW level), but he has nothing else hanging over him. While RW has had issues his whole career involving the media and his drug use and now he has a year long susp. hanging over his head...Edge does not have any of these issues...makes the decision pretty easy.

As far as McNabb goes, he's done more for the Iggles than RW would have done, even if he didn't have the other issues. Again, knowing then what we know now, a sure-fire franchise QB is a much better choice than an elite RB. The QB position will have more affect on your ability to win games than a 125 yard a game runner...

I don't see his logic completely comparing the moves to taking or not taking RW, but hind-sight is 20/20 and pretty much any of us can make these 'bold' statements that Clayton did now...it's a little nonsensical, because it really doesn't matter...I guess he's implying the problems that the Saints have had over the years would have gone away if they'd taken Edge instead of RW ?? I don't think so....
