had to vent about him tonite. He's usually fairly opinionated, but not tonite. Asked about whether Green will be successful in Miami he replied that he won't because he doesn't have a good supporting cast i.e. a good offensive line. He threw out the stat that Miami gave up 41 sacks last year and stated that Green will be running for his life. Well, Mark, if you take out the 21 sacks taken over 4 games by a QB with a bad leg and no clue to where to throw the football, that leaves 20. Now average those 20 over 16 games and you have that 'horrible' offensive line giving up 27 for the season, putting them 8th overall in the league for 2006. Now factor in that the o-line should have overall better talent next season and tell me they'll be horrible. Sorry, ain't buyin it.
Better talent+Houck+Cam= a good Offensive line.

The line could be good. But right now all it looks like is a line with a rookie center, a LT that may be better at RT, and warmed up leftovers at LG.

Until it proves people wrong, this line is less than inspiring, and Schlereth's opinion isn't unjustified.

also kinda ticked me off that the media was lamenting about how bad the Phins QB situation was, and now that they have a decent starter, it's like well, their O-line stinks so it doesn't matter anyway. WTF???? let's just find a flaw with them and hold that up and say this is why they'll stink. Is anyone pointing out the Patsy darlings better hope Moss' bad attitude and Stallworth's perennial bad hammies go away.

Stop trying to confuse the man with facts and common sense.

I dislike Shlereth... The guy was asked who has a better shot at the playoffs in 07, fins or chiefs and he picked chiefs without much thought... Hmmm Fins have a top 5 defense with an offense led by (atleast a) serviceable QB in trent green (maybe more).. chiefs have a garbage defense (jared allens out for 4 games), an offense led by a frail and skinny brodie croyle, no recievers (gonzalez is a TE), and an oline which has been at the top in recent years, but not anymore.

It wasnt only Dauntes play that was responsible for last years slow start. The OL play was horrendous until changes were made and the OL gelled...if you can call it that.

I expect we will have the same type of problems this year at the beginning of the season. The OL in a similar fashion will need time to adjust .

I almost feel sorry for the QB who will start the season.Hopefully it will be somebody with mobility. If its to be Green it might result in his early exit.

That would put Lemon under Center with Beck a strong possibility of stepping in if Lemon gets injured or if he is ineffective.

It's not surprising. Those guys don't spend time going inside the numbers. They just keep stat sheets in front of them to study before they comment.

KC still has a better shot at the playoffs. We've had a lot of turnover on the offense and a solid line and running game, which no one can deny KC has, can wear down teams and keep their own defense off the field. Nothing wrong the Chief's secondary either, although it is a bit old.

Regardless, I still think our o-line will still have some early season woes like last year. I wouldn't just throw out those stats completely.

There was an excellent thread in VIP with animated gifs breaking down those Daunte sacks last year and concluding that the majority of the blame on the o-line. I found that to be very convincing.

"Stinky" Schlereth knows his stuff when it comes to the O-lines in the NFL.....I think the main issue with Trent Green is he tends to hold onto the ball too long. Hopefully he won't have this problem here. I do think Trent has more mobility then DC who often looked like a statue last year. Hudson still has his work cut out for him in getting our O-line to gel, but the new younger additions should be a nice upgrade. :)

...........and what, KC has a championship o-line still? Don't think so. Last year they had what was arguably one of the worst set of tackles in the league. What did they do to get better? They picked up our castoff D-Mac. Neither Croyle nor Huard have a 16 game season under their belt and they play in a division owned by the Broncos and Chargers.

I'm not going to say he doesn't know what being an offensive lineman is like, but that stat is obviously skewed and he failed to mention the dramatic improvement after the 4th game........I mean we went from giving up 21 sacks in those game to 20 over the next 12.

I can't blame him for saying that because until the Dolphins line learns to block better and the offense starts putting up points he is right. I hope we do better this year on offense, But we willl have to see

Pretty good post but you formula needs a little tweaking:

Better OL talent+Houck+Cam+Trent Green getting rid of the ball when he has to = a better Offensive line than last years.
