Mort was just on ESPN, and said that Miami could be dealing with a "Schottenhiemer vs Schottenhiemer" head coaching situation, depending on today's outcome in San Diego. He mentioned that if the Chargers lose, and Marty was fired, that he would be interested in coaching the Miami Dolphins....

He also briefly mentioned Cameron, but linked his name as a strong candidate in Arizona moreso than Miami from the way it sounded. He also said that if the Chargers win, that Sherman / Whisenhunt were high on Arizona's radar....

He did not mention Chan Gailey at all. It was Schottenhiemer across the board in reagards to the Phinz coaching job....

PHINZ RULE!!!

Interesting.

Not sure who I would rather between the two Schottenhiemers. Marty probably doesn't have much left in the tank, but is the winningest active coach in the regular season. Brian is very young, with many years in front of him, but has no head coaching experience and only one year as a coordinator.

Both have their rewards and risks.

Hire Marty as HC for a couple years to Mentor Brian, then hire Brian as HC when his dad leaves.

battle royal.... , anyone who's seen the movie 'accepted' knows what im talking about. I think id prefer Marty over Brian because of the lack of expierence.

I'm not sure that would work. If we hire Marty, Brian wouldn't be an option in my opinion. The Jets would keep him, and eventually he'd end up coaching elsewhere. It's either Brian or Marty, I seriously doubt we'll ever have both....

PHINZ RULE!!!

I respect the hell out of Marty as a HC(I don't buy the loser tag some here put on him) but at 63 years old, I would pass and take Brian. If this was 5-6 years ago, no question I'd take Marty.

If Brian gets hired, I'm sure his father would be a mentor to him anyhow, he may even be interested in some kind of consultant's role with the Dolphins.

It will definitely depend on todays Chargers-Patriots game, or even the outcome of a possible Chargers-Indy AFC Championship game. Isn't Marty eternally cursed with really good teams choking in the end?

There's talk of Marty being fired if the Chargers don't win today. Marty has lost his last five playoff games. With all the talent the Chargers have, if Marty can't win at home today against the Patriots do we really want him as our HC? Plus he's almost ready to collect social security. I would much rather hire Brian now while he's available. He's a very smart young coach on the rise, and in another year or two he may not be available.

Our next coach will be either Brian Schottenhiemer or Mike Tomlin.

I would be very happy with either one of them, but I'd prefer having Brian due to his youth / future potential. That said, I think we're in good hand regardless of which one we end up with....

So is anyone cheering for the pats then today?

I think it's Brian Schott vs. Tomlin with the phins just waiting to see if Marty would want to interview (I dont think they would just hand the job to him).

How you guys feel about Mike Tomlin? I dont know much about him exept that he's the Vikings D- Coordinater.
