A quick scan of the scores of this week’s winners shows:

7 teams scored >= 30 (two w > 50 - sheesh)

3 teams scored >= 25

2 teams scored <= 20.

Sample of 1 week but I’m guessing this isn’t an outlier in today’s NFL. We rarely score 30 - even when everyone is healthy. We really need to look at building a team that is capable of scoring 40 or 50. With the rules as they are I think that’s the way it’s got to be as much as I don’t like it. Play good enough on defense to come out 30-24 on average. We aren’t close IMO. We have some building blocks at the skill positions - I really think it’s scheme more than anything. This offense doesn’t work

agree, weve seen 5 different qbs play in this offense and we struggle to get first downs regardless of whos in there...gases offense is just poorly designed, it doesnt work you are right

And the maddening thing is, again, given the state of the game it should be a lot easier to rack up first downs. Who was it we played that almost never had to get to 3rd down before they made 1st downs? Detroit? We almost never have that luxury. It’s as if we need 5 plays to get 10 yards. Painful to watch and dysfunctional.

In today’s NFL it’s not hard to score touchdowns. It’s not hard at all honestly. Yet we painfully struggle for first downs.

And the more I think about this - if it is representative more or less - is that I’ve been starting to bag on our QB for the fist time ever. Now I’m confused because to your point, 5 QBs who can’t move the offense. And, seeing as 10 of the winners this week (of the 12 I looked at) don’t all have Rodgers or Brees yet put up >=26, I’m begging to wonder if even those guys would be effective if they were here running the plays Gase calls.

My opinion? One big part of the problem with this team is that the NFL has continued to emphasize this rule or that, and is making it harder and harder to cover receivers downfield. Heck, you can't hit guys as they're making a catch anymore. At the same time, they've decided to emphasize offensive pass interference on pick plays.

The result? Teams are throwing bombs downfield and attacking the middle of the field with reckless abandon. Pretty much every team in the NFL figured this out immediately. Meanwhile, you look at the passing chart for the Dolphins and it's nothing but perimeter rinky dink stuff and moon shots.

Gase came into the 2018 NFL season with an outdated strategy.

Great point. It’s as if our coaches missed the memo while everyone else was busy adapting. Interesting insight. We are seeing more offensive PI pick calls. That is spot on.

You may have noticed I've been screaming about the Dolphins attacking the middle of the field more for most of the season. That's because you can't go in there and separate a defender from the football anymore -- not without drawing a penalty -- and also because they're calling illegal contact more than ever before. It's free real estate, man. I don't know what the hell is wrong with this team sometimes.
