Sean Payton Breaks Down the WILDCAT (Video)

I would like our guards to pull to the outside once in awhile.

The Dolphins in the early 70's used to slant the line with the guard popping out to the outside of the tackle. In the total opposite direction where they usually pull to the inside.

It seems that a defense can diagnose a wildcat play by just reading the guards and where they pull to the inside.. Of course they don't pull on every wildcat play. Just pointing that out.,

Overall though, the Dolphins O-line is doing a nice job of misdirection compared to last year. There really is no comparison in that regard.. A lot of the wildcat is based on misdirection-- that's what fools defenses

As well as our great blockers using the numbers the wildcat creates to our advantage.

But isnt that where the fake to Ricky comes in? It puts hesitation in the linebackers, freezing them, allowing the guards to get on their blocks and giving Ronnie the extra second to get past them...

But they don't motion Ricky every time. The O-line is doing a great job with games up front. Lots of trapping.. They don't necessarily need to overpower people, just get the defender going one way, then shield on the other side.

They are playing with some nice games up front, using misdirection in some instances. Plenty of slanting mixed in as well.. The D-line doesn't know what's coming next. What a difference it makes when you have smart, able, talented interior linemen compared to Alleman and Satele.

When the wildcat is well diagnosed the antidote is reverses. And additionally defenses can be made to feel frustrated out of their minds with simple throws over the linebackers and in front of the safeties. Also flee flickers make defenses crazy as all get out. And reverse direction screens.

So well disciplined defenses must win the physical battle and they can kept off balance by smashing them in the mouth and throwing some real razzle dazzle in their faces as well.

I saw that clip yesterday. You can tell Payton is taking this much more seriously than that bloated braggart in NY.

Remember he said he didn't take his timeouts because he didn't think there was anyway we would score a TD. I can't wait to play them again.

Ronnie could have scored by following Ricky's lead on the fake reverse as well on that last scoring play.

I just imagine all the different sets that we run where the TE's get more involved in the blocking and ronnie throwing the ball vs. Jets and then Pat White.

I know Payton has seen all the clips of the different formations but playing and "staying at home" is very difficult if you see something that doesnt look familiar or "studied".

I also wonder if they spent so much time on it that they seem out of whack on our base O with Henne only starting his 3rd game.

I love this matchup.

The biggest problem for New Orleans will be when Miami runs the tight package of the Wildcat. It the one where two TE's (or a TE and a WR) line up tight to the O-Line, adding more blockers up front and virtually turning it into a man-on-man smashmouth run.

Since the Fins have power backs like Ronnie, Ricky, and arguably Lex Hilliard now, they have an advantage when these match-ups occur. All they need is to break one tackle and they can get a good chunk of yardage.

So the head coach goes on TV and teaches about the opposing teams offense?? One word for that... ****y. I hope that Miami hits them with so much force that it de-cleats every one of their plans and leaves them defeated and humble.

Hes had his own show in nawllins for a couple years, they are just showing footage from that show.. He does this every game. Your jumping to conclusions
