Just an idea, but didn't this kid project as a FS/CB prospect?

We have Will Allen coming back, and Vontae looks like he can be a real stud at CB over time. Jason Allen has come along at CB, and looks like he could be a nickel and Nate Jones on any team is a solid #4 CB.

Why not give Smith a shot at FS. He has the speed, he has great instincts and cover skills, and has the size . . . I just think he could be a solid guy to put at FS. I know we don't want to start the whole "look what switching positions did to Jason Allen argument". I just want to know if u guys think he could play some FS, and if u think he could be successful there.

Opinions?

to be a safety in the NFL,you have to be physical, you have to be decisive, and you have to be able to tackle.

Sean isnt physical,Sean isnt decisive and he cant tackle.

Hes a corner,nothing more,nothing less.

Yea, that was my thing with him . . . he definitely would need to get more physical, but as a coverage safety (which we desperately need), I think he could excel, but u all are right, his tackling is very suspect. But he has ball hawk potential IMO.

whats gonna happen when a runner cuts back his side, and is open space,1-on-1 w/ Sean....

.......that is an ugly sight,my friend....:foundout:

he is ball hawk potential, but as a corner.

You cant be taught how to be physical. You either got it,or you dont....

oh yea, he is a ball hawk. no picks all season. he let aiken ride his back like a horse and gave him the ball. sean smith is good in coverage, but vontae is the ball hawk.

Sean had more picks in college than Vontae, despite starting one less season than 'Tae.

Now,Sean may not have any picks[this season],but just because one apple is shinier than the other, doesn't mean it tastes better.

Yea I don't put much into the INT stat. Guys have 10 pick seasons and fall back to 1 or 2. Doesn't mean they had a worse season, just means the other teams QB aimed it at him a little more one season.

Sean made plays in camp and in the preseason as far as INT's are concerned, I'm not worried about him getting picks in the future, atleast that stat wouldn't make me think he "couldn't" be a ball hawk.

The tackling argument is a sound one tho, he probably would need to bulk up a good 5-10 pounds and get better tackling technique. Oh well, just wanted to see the possible potential he may have at FS, since many projected him as one in the NFL.

Sean can't tackle. I mean he has looked silly out there trying to tackle guys. Just let him be a cover CB, learn the position and be good at what he does well. Draft a FS who has played FS his whole career.

no **** sean had more picks in college, first of all, he went up against terrible QB's compared to vontae in college. and then, college dont mean **** when you get into the NFL. thats like saying because i ran for 2000 yards in highschool, i will run for 2000 yards in college. the levels of competition arent interchangeable.

because everyone tries so damn hard in the pre-season.

aww,c'mon miz,we're splittin hairs now?

oaky then, how many of the Qb's Vontae had a pick on are in the NFL now?

scratch that, how many of them are even NFL bound?

So why even have the draft? Guys are just gonna fail in the NFL with your logic, even if they have 2000 yards in college. Suh is gonna be a big bust, because he can't translate his game to the pro's . . . I mean what the hell man.

He looked pretty damn good in the Sugar bowl vs. Bama last year . . . and that was "legit" competition.

you dont get it, just because someone did better than someone else in college doesnt mean squat when it comes to success in the NFL. Matt Linehart, Reggie Bush, Vince Young. 3 GREAT college players. average NFL players, well VY is improving. and thats just the big names from this decade.
