Most, including myself, thought signing Suh to his monster deal was a good move. What are we thinking now?

Many are saying that he has crippled us on the salary cap, and that simply is not true. This year, in addition to Suh, we gave big deals to Tannehill and Pouncey with $10M left over in the bank. Next year we have to pay him a whopping $28M but, can easily clear $40m or more in cap space with no big losses affecting the future of this team. He was like signing two high priced FA for the price of one, and it's debatable at best that we could have done any better with two.

He has not had the impact which many had hoped for but, overall had a VG (not great) year. I expect to improve next year. We could have, and have, done much much worse in our FA signings.

So, in hindsight, do you still like the deal?

Never wanted him. Wanted multiple quality players instead. Still feel exactly the same

He will be old by the time we are a good team and his massive salary limits our ability to improve the roster

I just hope his skills don't diminish too much in the next 2 to 3 years. He will be in his 30s by the time the team may be ready to contend. That's if the team hires a good coaching staff and Tannenbaum miraculously drafts well. In short he is a great player whos talent is going to waste on a bad team.

Great player. Overpaid.

I'd rather overpay for a great player than overpay for bums. We overpaid for a bunch of bums in 2013.

It's not as if he cant play anymore or he all of a sudden isnt a GREAT DT. We misused him like we have most of the talent here. Whether it was Suh or a bunch of other players, it would not have mattered given the cheap coaching that was going on here. Bad ****ing coaching has plagued this team since Wanstache.

P.S. We will have plenty of cap space this offseason by simply cutting a few players.

I would add that I fully expect Tannenbaum to make some dumb flashy move this summer, immediately declare us superbowl ready, neglect the line, lb and corner group and then go 4-12

this is what happens when you let the inmates run the asylum

He's a great player but there are to many holes on the team to tie up that much money on a DL. I thought over the next 2-3 years the possibility existed that with the right front office and coaching staff the team would have been better off without tying that much money up in him. Now, well I'm not real hopeful. Sucks but it is what it is.

You put a myles jack or jaylon smith behind him and this defense becomes so much better. All the great defenses historically have had difference makers at LB.
Things change fast in the NFL. Most important issue for this team is finding the right coach and staff. Developing the young talent on this team will surprise a lot of the doom and gloom crowd. But again, it is contingent upon the right coaching staff.

Actually it is bad linebacker play that is making the signing look bad. Suh is pretty much doing what he is supposed to do (eat up blocks, etc.). The linebackers just aren't getting it done. The Wake injury didn't help. Imagine Zach Thomas operating behind Suh....

Look how talentless our defense is...

Now subtract Suh from it..

Yeah, Suh is not even close to a problem, probably the best move we have made in years.

Hated the signing esp for the money but it doesnt really matter . We are stuck with that contract until at least 2019 where it will be a 5 million dead cap hit.
So for good or bad it doesnt matter because he is a dolphin until 2019.

Exactly. What suh does cant be judged by a stat line. I cant tell you how many times i watched suh take two defenders and drive them into the backfield where the runningback is, only to have the runningback dance because no linebackers come in to clean up the play. Did we overpay? Of course we did, anyone that says we didnt needs to be checked out by a doctor for a mental disorder. However rarely does a potential future hall of famer enter free agency in his prime so you pay alot to get him. If we even put average lb's and secondary out there, we'd see much different results. Outside of jones, vernon, grimes, wake (but not for half this year) is even an average nfl player? Jelani jenkins is one i guess, misi is prolly an average outside linebacker but due to incompetence was forced to play middle where he's prolly below average if he plays at all.
