How do you all really feel about our secondary this year? We have a lot of young guys and i'm not too sure how long it would take for the group to gell and become productive.. ?
who do you all think will be starting on the other side of Will Allen? I think Sean Smith should start on the other side, especially with the height advantage.. I'm stoked to see how he pans out! I guess Vontae will be in the slot for a while until he takes the #1 spot..

I think our secondary is fine. Can't be any worse then the **** we have had since Madison/Surtain left... besides Will Allen that is. I am actually confident our secondary will be one of the best in the league.

As long as Will Allen and Yeremiah Bell stay healthy all season again, I think we're set at 3 of the 4 spots - I think Wilson is pretty underrated, though you wouldn't gather that based on his salary, and will do well next to YB.

I think Vontae Davis should be given every opportunity to start opposite Allen, but I think we'll see Eric Green out there week 1. I don't read too much into getting beat deep in mini-camp, if it's still happening once the pads are on, then I'll start to get uneasy.

I really like the depth we have with Sean Smith, Tyrone Culver, and Nathan Jones. I think given time, Clemons will see some time in the sub packages. I think Jason Allen is a goner unless he has an all-world camp.

I mean i have no problem with who starts by allen as long as it's vontae or smith. i don't feel too comfortable with green.. i'm not really too sure how long it takes for rookie corners to adjust to the nfl speed.. anyone knows the average amount of time?

It really depends on the player. Sam Madison played a lot his rookie year in the nickel and dime formations, and by season's end, he was a starter. Almost ditto for Patrick Surtain. But those were two exceptional players and you can't expect that from every draft pick.

Still can't believe we were able to snag Sean Smith so late (and I'm still not giving up on Jason Allen).

It's going to be a ****ing hornets nest of competition over the vacated CB spot.

To be honest we did amazing in the draft other then maybe heartline. i think all will be good, but are two key players for years to come will be Patrick Turner and Vontae Davis. :woot:

I will be very surprised if Eric Green is starting week one. He looked bad at OTA's, and was terrible last year in Arizona. I doubt he'll impress in training camp and the pre-season either. I get the feeling he'll be the '09 free agent equivalent of Wilford last year.

We all know Parcells isn't shy about giving rookies playing time early, so I think either Davis or Smith will be starting opposite Allen.

They will struggle until the pass rush starts to dominate, I'm stoked because this secondary is going to punish everybody that's going to cross the middle of the field.

If what the concensus on Scouts.com is correct, that Davis was a top ten talent whose baggage caused him to drop, then he can play as a rookie. Look at Dominque Rogers-Cromartie in AZ. Played, and played well in a SB as a rookie.

I think one of these kids can start, the other can play the slot. The way we break up our coverage its not that huge a deal. The key, as always to a good secondary is to have a better pass rush. If we do that (and we have alot of opportunities--JT, Wake, the rookies from last year getting better pass rushing) then we'll have a championship caliber defense.

Will be a very interesting camp battle thats for sure.

Very difficult to call at this stage. Green should get the job come week 1, but if he continues to struggle during camp, then either Davis or Smith could get the job. It would then be very interesting to see who would win out between Davis and Smith.

Here's a shocker for ya. Jason Allen is a "Buffalo Soldier," and will start vs Atlanta.

Give me a minute to duck but, it will happen.

I'm not sure about that, but if nothing else TC will have one hell of a battle for the roster spots. Some of these guys like JA and Jones are probably fighting for a roster spot, not just a starting job.
