I was just on the Senior Bowl website to look for rosters for 2006 and it crossed my mind that I've never seen a Dolphins head coach take the reigns for a team in the Senior Bowl. Can anyone else remember Shula, Jimmy, or Wanny coaching in the Senior Bowl?

The coaches are chosen by the NFL, but I don't know what criteria they use in picking the coaching staff. I would think that Nick Saban would be a great choice. Our staff has more coaches than most teams and that would give the players access to more one-on-one instruction. Plus, Nick isn't so far removed from the college game that he wouldn't be unfamiliar with coaching college players. Of course, the chance for our staff to evaluate these guys firsthand in practices, meetings, and in the game would be invaluable. Sure every team has scouts on hand for the practices and game, but coaching will give our guys insight into the players that have the heart, smarts, and work-ethic that Saban desires.

I remember Shula coaching one of the teams in the Sr. Bowl.

I think in recent years they've chosen the coaches on worst records in the respective conferences, but that could be wrong. It used to be chosen on the basis of conference championship, I think, then another time they'd select the coaches on the basis of conference runners-up, so it's changed over the years.

I know years ago it was the coaching staffs of the team that lost the conference championship games. As such, Shula and his staff did one in '93 if I remember correctly. Something like that.

nah, it's the teams with the worst records that get a crack at coaching the senior bowl. assuming capers is fired, looks like mike nolan is one of them this year, and maybe herm edwards/jeff fisher as the other
