I was reading PFT's latest article re: Shanahan trying to distance himself from the RG3 pick & this stood out to me

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...of-shanahan-wanted-to-stay-put-for-tannehill/

Shanahan now knows the bell will soon be tolling for him, and that he needs to craft a narrative that will help get him the Andy Reid treatment in January, with an owner of a downtrodden franchise concluding that a consistently successful coach like Shanahan is the guy to come in and instantly turn things around.

Shanahan possibly has begun this process by publicly pointing on Monday to the $36 million in cap penalties. Though he mentioned that dynamic as reason to expect improvement in 2014, it’s not a stretch to see it as the identification of an excuse for poor performance in 2013.

Even if Shanahan didn’t want Tannehill, floating the notion that he did could help Shanahan find a suitor for 2014. Reid’s instant success in Kansas City will make certain members of the FFCA even more attractive. With plenty of teams destined to be looking for coaches soon — and with Daniel Snyder possibly one of them — it’s never too early for Shanahan to start getting the attention of billionaires who tend to know who they want to hire well before they decide to fire the guys who are currently coaching their teams.

I would rather see a playoff run even if it means Philbin/Ireland in 2014. However, if we fall short of the playoffs, I feel that Shanahan would be interested in coming to Miami. He'd also likely be someone Dungy & co. would recommend to Ross. Would you want Shanahan > Philbin/Ireland? If we fall short of the Jets this year, I would. It sounds as though this Tannehill story is just a cover up for a poor decision, i'm not really buying it..

I do think he'd come into a lot better situation in Miami 2014 than he did Washington 2012. And maybe (just maybe) he would find instant success in Miami like Reid has in KC. Your thoughts...

No thanks, Shanahan is garbage. And his son that he brings along everywhere is worse...

How much of the problem in Washington is RG3, though? I don't watch the Redskins religiously, but every time I see them, he is complete garbage. To be honest, none of the FO ideas that have been floated sound great to me, i'd assume keep Philbin & co. That article just seems like he's positioning himself for a new job in '14, happens to be about our starting QB, and he'd likely be someone that Dungy would recommend.

Depends on the GM and the staff he'd bring. The Redskins suffer from inefficiency at the QB position and a poor D. I think the system would be a good fit for Tannehill. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it'd probably be an upgrade - assuming we bring in a half-competent GM.

Ironically, Shanahan invented the move PFT attributes to Andy Reid. Shanahan already duped a billionaire (Snyder) in the so-called Andy Reid method.

Washington is running the ball about 30 times a game, at 5.1 YPC, and their 155.2 RYPG leads the NFL.

If not for the D giving up 6.1 yards per play (3rd worst in the NFL), they'd be a competitive team.

no way to Shanahan. What has he done that's impressive? Won 2 SBs almost 20 years ago? He hasn't even been respectable w/o Elway and Terrell Davis. Too many problems with his players in the past. We don't need that here. And RG3 should not be playing. He looks like a shell of the player from last season. He has no confidence in that leg and Shanahan hasn't even noticed.

To expand on that. Since Elway retired Shanahan has ONE playoff win in 12 seasons as a coach.

No.

Shanny is an old school type coach with old school game plans.

12 year old on Madden can come up with better game plans than Shanny.

I'd be interested to see what Shanahan or Kubiak could do with our offensive personnel.

In fact, I'd be interested to even see what Mike Shula could do with them.
