Shaq Barrett coming out of retirement

Man lots of hate here but we dont know what led to his retirement. He could have been dealing with some deep personal issues that have now been resolved for all we know.

I would love to add another pass rusher to hold the fort down until chubb comes back so hopefully this works out.
Yeah, aging vet not coming off the bench, but coming off the couch. He should be an upgrade...Grier loves this type of player.

Honestly, this was generally brutal on all sides. I can’t get mad at Miami.

I look at our wins and losses and try to see what is moving us forward, and what is holding us back.
The Head Coach

Mike McDaniel has been the source of some of our best games in decades, and also some of our worst defeats. Is he getting better or worse?

One of my conclusions is that our HC is getting better. He has made a series of improvements in his game calling and gameday planning, which were the biggest problems I had with him. He still has more to do; especially in his "comportment" with his players. It is more important that his players respect him than it is that they like him.

Offense

Overall, our HC has shown substantial growth in an area of weakness. Once the team is better balanced Offensively and Defensively, I anticipate that balance, coupled with his now demonstrated ability to change and grow in game day planning and play calling, will result in many more games being won.

Any improvement in the area of player relationships with coaching will be reflected, indirectly, by who we bring on board next year - either by draft, trade or direct hire - coaches and players.

As part of our HC's area of improvement requirements, I feel improvement in player relationships will be very important and that any improvement in this area will occur after the end of the season. If there is improvement, it will be made evident by who we release and how we release them; and especially why we let those players and coaches go.

Reasons for letting players go could include many things such as positional fit, temperament and coachability, availability of players with better capabilities i.e. all-around skill set, consistency, learning capability and general maturity. As for coaching - my focus would be on Special Teams and Basics, Basics, and more Basics, along with an effective kicking game along with good defense against punt returns. This is also the place our 3rd tier QBs will get their NFL start.

This is one place a 2nd QB coach may be necessary. That's right - I want two QB coaches. One for our newly drafted QB's who will hopefully will not see the field for a year, and a QB coach for our QB and backup QB. I want our QBs to all be successful. Backup QBs are always "just one play away" from being called into the game. Keep in mind our 3rd QB is often used to "duplicate" an opponent's QBs skill set in our team practices, and for that reason alone, there will be a lot of extra coaching required to help him through his 1st year.

I would like to see better overall coaching in terms of player self-discipline, fundaments such as blocking and tackling, and controlling the ball (physically).

Overall Team Improvement

For overall team improvement, I want our OL to get better. We have the most critical piece in place now at center - but there is no reason not to improve that position even more if there is a player out there who is both better & less expensive.

As for guards and tackles, if we make a player change, I am more interested in solid players who are good at all aspects of the position than I am about an uneven distribution of effectiveness in the required skill set. "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link", and in NFL football there is no better fit for that quote than the Offensive Line.

I feel our offense is more stable at our running & receiving positions right now - but improvements are always welcome, along with more cap space. - LOL

Defense

As for defense, if our current DC is as good as I suspect he is, we will see some personal changes across the board - most of which I suspect will come via the draft and USFA's. These changes will address the positions required skill set, not as you or I see it, but as our DC sees it.

The Rest of This Season

Now the big question - what do we do for the rest of this season. We keep trying to win - No If's, ands or but's. I feel we need to keep playing hard and keeping our play calling improving, along with the development of some of our younger players by getting them some game time exposure - as long as it doesn't reduce our ability to win.

In review: Be Reasonable and Do Things My Way. - LOL

They have to keep trying to win. Trying to lose will cost you the locker room and potentially hurt future FA signings.

If memory serves… he lost a child… a parent’s worst nightmare.

Now it's being reported Shaq did call Grier Monday morning wanting to return per his agent. McD not knowing until he heard it from media makes this situation even more bizarre.
Edit It was his agent that called.
