Speaking to reporters at a charity event in New York Wednesday night, disgruntled Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield was anything but charitable when it came to GM Brian Cashman.

Sheffield told the New York Daily News that Yankees owner George Steinbrenner wants the slugger in the Bronx, "But when you have middle men blocking him and don't let you do certain things and get in the way, they let their personal feelings get in the way."Asked if he was referring to Cashman, the slugger retorted "You know who the middle man is; you talk to him every day."
Sheffield also had some thoughts on Bobby Abreu, who replaced him in the outfield after a midseason trade from Philadelphia.
"He's a good player, but you can draw it up any kind of way, he ain't me," Sheffield told the paper.

I'm shocked LMAO. It doesn't really matter, Sheffield is out of here, the Yankees will get a pitcher in return for him, and he will become someone else's headache!

Yanks slugger Gary Sheffield acknowledged he was Alex Rodriguez's sounding board last season. Asked who would take his place, he answered, "Nobody," a seeming shot at Derek Jeter and other team leaders. "You all better get ready," Sheffield said. "There's nobody."

Gary Sheffield, who averaged 35 home runs and 122 runs batted in his first two years with the Yankees, wondered why Joe Torre & Company were so high on Abreu as their new right fielder, and why he was not allowed to compete for his old position. “I’ve done more for the Yankees than he will ever do,” Sheffield said of Abreu. “When you lose your spot on a team, it should be because the other guy is better than you, but that’s not the case here. Why was I not given a chance to compete for the right-field job?”

Get rid of this tool bag now Cashman!

Sheffield was always a warrior for the Yankees and I loved what he gave the team on the field but off the field he's so unprofessional it's disgusting. He should have more respect to the Yankees who gave him everything he asked for these last couple of years (especially the Boss). He flipped out during Spring Training this year whining at the Yankees for not picking up his option yet and now that their going to pick it up and guaranteee him 13 million dollars no matter who he plays for he's mad. He needs to stop hating Abreu and the Yankees for making that move, they had no choice. If Sheffield was the only guy out then the Yankees wouldn't have made a move but with Matsui and Sheff out the Yankees had no choice and did the right thing getting Abreu not only because of his bat but also because he's a quiet guy who goes about his business in a professional matter both on and off the field!

Sheffield is an @ss, plain and simple. Everytime he opens his mouth all I can think of is how he admittedly and purposely threw a ball from the outfield into the third base stands in order to force a trade from the Brewers.

He isn't a better player than Abreu, Abreu has a better OBP, his defense is better, he has more speed, he is younger, he hits for average, he is more versatile in the lineup, he runs hard on infield groundouts, he doesn't have a big mouth and he never called his GM a "middle man". Sheffield wasn't even the best FA available at the time, that distinction goes to Vlad Guerrero but Steinbrenner's inner circle had concerns that his back was worse than he was letting on. Boy how I wish they signed Vlad instead of this selfish and egotistical nitwit.

Couldn't agree more.

Sheff just doesn't get it. Never has and never will.

I am shocked he and Bonds don't get along. Sounds like they have a lot in commen. They are both pricks!

Sheffield is just bashing because he out of New York. He never been I guess "A Yankee". IMO I think the Yankees are going downhill fast too old, depending on the hot commodity of the year who doesnt last long term, and depending on old yankees to bring them back to the glory days. They need to get younger and get better scouts.

The scouts are fine. (Wang, Melky, Cano....etc). The farm system is as good as ever.

They ARE/WERE too old. But they are cutting ties with the old guys whenever they can. Like Sheff. Like how they refused to trade Hughes and Melky this year. Randy is in his final year in NY, he isn't getting a contract extension. They can't just cut all of these old guys at once, but one by one with Cashman having total control he is just removing them one by one...

He averaged 35 and 122 and if healthy I think he'll still produce. Still for the Yankees it comes back to A-Rod and if Sheffield was indeed his "sounding board," I think it isolates him even more in the lockerroom.

Numbers don't out-weigh the black cloud that comes over teams when Gary puts on their uniform. He left just about every place other then Atlanta on bad terms in one way or another (mostly because of money). I don't think anyone alienates A-Rod anymore then he alienates himself with his ways. Like the saying goes "everybody can't be wrong." If one or two people didn't like A-Rod on the Yankees then I could see people saying it's not A-Rod's fault but when just about everyone on the team can't stand you including the manager. It's obviously something your doing!

Back to Sheffield, he's doing nothing but helping the Yankees out because the Yankees are going to get a pitcher for him which will only add to the depth this team will have after they make their free-agent moves. We already have Randy, Wang, and Pavano (Yes, I said his name) with Hughes in the wings so if we re-sign Moose, get another top of the line starter through free agency, and add another starter by trading off Sheff, the depth of this staff is going to be reminiscent of 03 when we had Pettitte, Wells, Clemens, Moose, Weaver, and Contreras, and that is scary for MLB!

Just a side note, I am not saying the quality of starters will be as good as 03, I'm just saying the depth will be comparable!

As a Phillies fan I was sad to see Bobby Abreu traded away to the Yanks....I just hope the Phils don't try to bring in Sheff and go with Soriano if they decide on going after him.

Sheff has gotten a big head.

The Yankees have Wang than a bunch of question marks. They can go after a pitcher for Sheffield but if a team knows that they're going to trade Sheffield how good of a pitcher are they going to get? I don't think any team fears the Yankees, IMO. I don't see the depth if they re-sign Moose they got two guys who can be counted on but Wright is a 6 inning guy, Pavano hasn't been healthy in two seasons, and Johnson is washed up.
