Now this really suprises me . . . he was a clear top 10 pick after the expected combine #'s he will put up. Clear #1 safety in this draft . . . and next year he has Eric Berry to go up against just for starters. Next years safety draft and WR draft is going to be SICK.

Bad news for the Fins as one less person will be available when we pick. Williams Moore's stock just rose . . .doubt he falls to us now.

First McCoy, now Mays . . . still waiting the Bradford and Sanchez decisions.

i agree, thats really surprising! i was looking forward to seeing him in the pros, thats too bad.

Or you could look at it as one more person we have available to draft next year. I think we're probably going to have a higher draft pick next year anyway. With our schedule next season, we may not make the playoffs...

He's arguably the most overrated player in this years draft. He is invisible most of the time on the field.

If you are to draft a safety in the first round they need to be an absolute playmaker. Taylor Mays' hype is about 90% his reported physical attributes.

Last time Mays ran a 40 yard that the time wasn't provided by USC it was a 4.6. Believing in his reported 4.25 is going to leave a lot of people highly disappointed.

For comparison, he has 4 picks in his college career. 0 this past year and 1 last year.

A true top 10 pick at safety is Eric Berry. Absolute playmaker. One more year.

One more year in college will be good for Taylor Mays.

I'm a USC fan from the 70's and I think he was right to go back for another year. He's not the prototypical USC safety (making plays all over the field, lights out hits).

Like the poster says he disappears at times. But maybe he'll be a better Pro than college player ala Terrell Thomas of the Giants who used to get burnt all the time in college but had a very good season with the Giants.

I think anytime your probably going to be rated the best player at your position in the draft you have to declare, to many things can happen and you can lose a lot of money.

Well, we can forget about any chance of William Moore falling to us now.

That is a shocking. Had Mays declared he would've potentially pushed another good play that we wanted down our way.

Difference is people tested Berry. No one tested Mays. Did not hear much about him because no one threw the deep ball. kid is for real, when teams did test him in the middle of the season no completions for 15+ yards.

This is not true...Mays was fairly invisible this year.

One thing many haven't brought up is the possibility that the advisement committee saw this, and advised him he may not have been as high a pick as some here think...

Mays did his job as asked by Pete Carroll. He was to play center field. And it was,kt very often or if at all that teams got the deep ball in on them (except maybe minus the Penn State game missing Kevin Ellison).

Taylor's impact came from being on the field period. That's how he changes the game.

He can also help in run support as I've seen him break up many plays before they reached the line of scrimmage. He also knows how to lay a hit breaking up a pass. He's a great player, not overrated at all.

I saw every Trojan game this year. Mays played center better than you can imagine. No one completed a pass for 15+.He would have helped any team tremendously this season. Mays according to every Draft Board I have seen was a lock to go in the top 15.

Mays was invisible because teams didn't challenge him. Ed Reed is invisible alot as well, until teams challenge him. Ed Reed is very average in run support and not the best tackler . . . . he is the MASTER center fielder. Mays is bigger, reportedly faster and a stronger hitter. The NFL will determine if he has the instincts to be mentioned in the same breath as Reed. Either way, a team has to lick their chops when they see his size and measurables.

And somebody said he isn't a big hitter in this thread?

It's nice to see for some people money isn't everything!!! The kid can never go back to the college experience again so why not use one more year and potentially become an even better player.

Many juniors are staying in school. This is not a bad thing believe it or not. The success rate of juniors coming out is highly questionable at best. Most are not ready for the NFL.
