Shockey expected to sign with Panthers or Dolphins today

Someone go track Shockey's plane! That worked for us last time right? oh wait.......

I would think he would choose us..but he will get more PT with the panthers...Plus he may want revenge on the Saints..

I expect we offered a one year contract at Vet Minimum or close to that and MAYBE Carolina offered a 2 year contract at about the same. Shockey is not a bad guy and for his sake, I want him to sign somewhere and have work.

Apprarently these are the only 2 teams to even give him a sniff.

i bet u he will love 2 sign with the dolphins it his home down here

I would bet both teams offered 2 year contracts and very similar $$. The difference is probably in the incentives.

Or the wording. One team may have put in you get this if you play this many games or if you make the game day roster or if you accomplish yada yada yada.

Pros in the Panthers' favor are a likely bigger role in the offense, as Carolina's top two tight ends in 2010 (Dante Rosario and Jeff King) combined for fewer than 400 yards and just two touchdowns, and both are unrestricted free agents this offseason. The Dolphins, meanwhile, have an entrenched starter in Anthony Fasano, who signed a contract extension during the 2010 season.

Signing with Carolina would also reunite him with rookie offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who was Shockey's position coach and later offensive coordinator during the tight end's time with the Hurricanes.

Working in Miami's favor would be a more talented offense, a better contender than last year's 1-15 Panthers and a return to the city where he played college ball. Since his release from the Saints, Shockey himself has been quoted as saying, "it would be a dream to play for the Dolphins."

Jerry Richardson is making a nasty, disdainful azz out of himself at the negotiation table, as well as having the reputation of being one of the cheapest owners. Can't see that, or the team's location being advantages if the money is comparable.

Shockey also lives in South Florida in the offseason...

I previously wrote that I don’t think Shockey is a good fit for the Panthers and my thinking on that hasn’t changed a bit. In fact, I think the guy could do more harm than good for a young franchise that has a lot of building to do. But I will soften things a bit and say, if the Panthers sign Shockey, make sure it’s just a one-year deal.

If Miami’s offer is equal to or even close to Carolina’s, I’m thinking Shockey will sign with the Dolphins. The guy went to college at the University of Miami. Knowing what I know of Shockey, I think he’d much rather hang out on South Beach than Tryon Street in Charlotte.
