seems to me that our passing woes could be fixed with a short passing game philosophy. both the starting running backs are great at catching the ball, along with camarillo, hartline and bess, they have a lot of options for Henne that are sure handed. they need to speed up the tempo of the passing game and remove the chance of Henne holding the ball too long and getting sacked as he currently has a propensity to do.

also, lining up with a 3 WR set, plus the 2 backs gives Henne 5 possible targets if they all go out. the running backs can both go out or stay in to pass block on certain plays. insert ginn every now and then as a decoy, reverses, a a legit deep shot down field.

getting in a spread formation could also force the defense to bring out more DB's and give brown and williams a better matchup up front to run against.

thoughts?

No. More screens and slants would greatly help. More 3+ WR sets need to come as well. But the short passing game, or "dink and dunk" offense as I like to call it won't work. We tried that with Pennington. Didn't work.

not dink and dunk per se, but more that west coast style, ball control short passing game. it just suits are personnel right now. screens, slants, short crossing, etc... then take a shot down field at the right moment.

It would help greatly if we had an athletic, very good, pass catching tight end.

Did you see those great athletic catches by Shockey last night ? Bad passes by Brees were still easily caught by him, and catches our TE's cannot get close to making.

Those two teams last night had Shockey and Gonzalez as their TE's.. We have Fasano who is stiff as a brick.

The problem with that is, you can't just implement the WCO halfway through the season. While we might have the WR's suited for the WCO, it takes time to learn. Besides I can't see Henne as a WCO QB, maybe Pennington. We'd be much, much better off to try and get the WR's we need for our current passing game, than to switch to a WCO.
