Fellow FINFANS… I had some downtime at the office today and was dreaming about asking Santa for a FIN playoff berth for Christmas… This got me to thinking about what was ahead of us and possible scenarios that could work in our favor to make it happen. First thing that came to mind was our chances within the division… So I set forth to do a review and found something that made my heart rate increase!
Below are the current records of the PATSIES, JESTS, JILLS and FINS, along with their schedules.

PATS Schedule (6-3)
Packers
Bears
Lions
Dolphins
Texans
Jaguars
Titans

JETS Schedule (5-4)
Bears
Texans
Packers
Bills
Vikings
Dolphins
Raiders

BILLS Schedule (3-6)
Texans
Jags
Chargers
Jets
Dolphins
Titans
Ravens

DOLPHINS (3-6)
Vikings
Lions
Jags
Pats
Bills
Jets
Colts
Based on schedules and teams I can certainly see the following scenarios for the next 3 weeks.

PATS – Based on the way the have been playing of late, I can see this team going 1-2 easily. Losses to the Packers and DA Bears… We can only pray for a loss to the LIONS… PATS record when the enter DOLPHINS stadium (7-5)

JETS – I see losses to DA BEARS and to the Packers as well… And if they are not careful, the Texans could surprise them. Record at the end of that 3 week span (6-6) Note: They could actually end up (7-5) though depending on the PACKERS health.

BILLS – They have the toughest schedule left of their season, however, I seem them going 1-2 in the next 3 weeks. Record at the end of that 3 week span (4-8)

FINS – I really like our chances to go 3-0 over the next 3 weeks. The only real fight we will have is the VIKINGS IMHO… They have a very good run “D†and Ronnie is hurting. Let’s hope that Joey plays it safe and don’t take any chances. I think our “D†will keep us within a win as long as we don’t turn it over… Our record at the end of the 3 weeks (6-6)

Now the reason I went with the 3 week span is due to the fact that the 4th week starts our final push through the division starting with the PATS, then the BILLS and finishing with the JETS, in 3 straight weeks. 2 of those are home games with the PATS and JETS. That very same week, the BILLS play @ the JETS.

When the FINS beat the PATS and the BILLS beat the JETS, we end up tied in first place for the division with the PATS, and possibly the JETS depending on the PACKERS game, at (7-6) with 3 games to go!!! If you look at the schedules above again, the FINS have the toughest schedule of the 3 and the PATS with the easiest. The JAGS are the only team that I can see beating the PATS on the remaining schedule.

Now this is what got my heart to kick into high gear… This game will be played on Christmas EVE! And with a loss by the PATS, our destiny resides on our shoulders to take out the JETS Christmas Day!!! When we beat the JETS we have 1st place alone in the division and only have the COLTS to deal with to keep it and win it!!!

So SANTA, I am officially asking you for only 1 thing this year! A playoff berth for my DOLPHINS!!! And I promise to be a very good boy!!!

Dang a lot of this is predicated on the Packers turning into a good team and I dunno about that man...even with Favre playing well.

If the Packers beat the Pats and Jets they'd have legitimate playoff hopes.

our biggest problem is being 0-3 in the division. That measn the Pats already have the tiebreaker over us, and all the Jets have to do is beat the Bills at home for them to have the tiebreaker over us.

It's good to win some games but they have about an ice cubes chance in hell of making the playoffs. Maybe next year, I'm starting to see a little of what a Cubs fan feels like these past few seasons.

How about we get to 6-6 before proclaiming ourselves the probable AFC East winners?

How about cutting the guy some slack.

He didnt "proclaim" anything, as he admits himself, its wishful thinking, with a little help from Santa:)

I like Farve's chances against the PATS in the frozen tundra. This will also be Brady's first visit to GB so it will be a new venue to deal with...

The JETS on the other hand is hosting the PACKERS... This is more of a hopeful than anything. However, the VIKINGS could give them problems as the JETS seem to be riding the run alot lately. With the VIKINGS run defense being what it is, this may be a possible loss as well...

Thanks AV... It just seemed to be so coincedental my making that wish and the scenario playing out like it did after looking at it... Or is it a coincedence???:goof:

It's every fan's god-given right to have hopes for getting into the playoffs or even winning a super bowl until the team is mathematically eliminated. FinintheMoon was just laying out the most likely scenarios if that were to happen.

And quite frankly, given how we finished last year, I don't see how anyone can say it is truly impossible for us to run the table. And, if we run the table, not only do we have a solid chance of getting in at 10-6, one way or the other, but every team in the league would need to fear the team that has been unbeatable for 9 straight games.

as much as i hate the pats, i really doubt they will go anything less then 10 wins this season.

Ah don't forget though that Brady played his college days in Michigan...and has played a ton of cold weather games in NE.

BTW your line of thinking with the Jets-Vikings is exactly what could sink us this week.

the problem with winning the division is we lose the tiebreaker to the pats. its 99% gauranteed the pats will beat the lions, texans and titans. that's 9 wins. that means they would have to lose all 4 of their other games (packers, bears, dolphins, jags) which they will more than likely win atleast one of those. it also means we'd have to win out which would be extremely difficult. our only hope is the 6 seed wildcard at 9-7 and we'll need some help from other teams losing. anything is possible, and we'll all keep hoping until we are mathematically eliminated.

Yes.. This is a concern of mine... Like I said earlier, I am relying ou our "D" to make some plays and keep us close enough for the finish...
