Not sure if you caught this on NFL HQ or not but they brought up an interesting stat. Under Failbin we were averaging 12% under center now we are averaging 35% under center. They brought up who that helps the power running game and helps the play action pass. I had brought up this in the past why we weren't taking more snaps under center.

12%? That must have been over the 3+ years cause I don't remember us lining up with Tannehill under center this year until Philbin was fired.

That probably is correlated with the fact that we are running the ball more in general. Thus taking more snaps under center because we are running more and have the lead more. Plus we have been in much more manageable downs.

More runs out of the single back formation or I formation please. I don't like the shotgun runs. Tannehill hardly ever takes off with the ball so they're kind of moot.

the "spread" fad is fading... finally!! cutesy college footballing ain't no way to play grown man ball

The WSJ print edition had a little blurb article on QB passer rating under center vs under shotgun several weeks ago. They pointed out that teams should stop using the shotgun so much, since QBs generally perform much worse in the shotgun than they do under center. I think Tannehill's differential was like +14 passer rating under center or something like that.

If I could dig up my old thread about Gary Kubiak's offense, I think I touched on it there, as well. Basically, the shotgun is really overused.

Here's the article, if anyone is interested. The Shotgun Formation is Far From Lethal

The shotgun abuse is bad football. I've emphasized that for years. There's virtually no contrast in the league anymore. Idiot coaches watch Brady and Rodgers thriving via shotgun and throwing nonstop and brainstorm that they can do the same with their mediocre quarterback. It's world class ignorance. Fortunately the Dolphins have wised up just in time.

It's fantastic to watch Carolina play. They are one of the few teams with any threat of contrast, like the old days. Their problem is that Newton has very little touch. He's developed bad habits like winging the ball 100 mph on virtually every throw and rarely setting his feet. That team would be a legit threat if Newton simply relaxed, improved his mechanics, and made the type of touch throws he was often capable of at Auburn.

I do see more sacks when under center. I think Brady is shotgun all the time, no?
