Should Matt Flynn be our qb next year???

I just don't have any confidence that the front office would pick a QB in the first round.
Why?

2008 Draft: I'll give you this one since they could have drafted Ryan but went with Long. However, coming off a 1-15 season perhaps they felt they had bigger issues to deal with. They did draft Henne in the 2nd so QB was on their minds.

2009 Draft: The team had Pennington and had just come off a division winning season. They also had Henne ( who most people loved at this point ), QB was not a priority for the team. Pennington was expected to be around a couple of years until Henne was ready to take over.

2010 Draft: Henne looked promising when he took over in 2009, Pennington was back along with some crazy guy who lit things up in KC named Thigpen. The majority of people were really happy with our QB situation.

2011 Draft: After the 2010 season it was looking like Henne might not be the answer but when the Dolphins were up to draft all of the good QB's had already been taken except Mallet who was passed on by every other team at least twice including other teams that also needed a QB, apparently nobody liked him, not just the Dolphins. Since they couldn't get a QB the Dolphins addressed their other big problems, the O-line and running game.

So, how should they have done it?

Should they just draft any 'ol QB just to satisfy the masses who'll in turn complain about it when it doesn't work out.

The team also had Parcells running the show the first three years so you can't blame it all on Ireland.

You also can't blame Ireland for anything that happened before he arrived in Miami. Ted Ginn was Cameron and Ronnie Brown was Saban.

The problem is that the two years when the team had a chance to draft a talented young QB, both times they drafted an offensive lineman first, showing where their priorities where. Jake Long wasn't a bad pick from a talent standpoint, but possibly a bad choice. Thus year, though, we went for a guy who wasn't as highly rated by many as he apparently was by us, when there were more highly touted passers to come out this year than any since 2003, and possibly more than then. This isn't a left tackle, he is a center, and you can find quality interior linemen in free agency when you can't find starting-caliber QB's.

Teams who are drafting in the top half of the draft find a way to get the QB's they want, we just weren't interested.

He's a good player and getting a damn good education in being a QB in Green Bay. Also, if Daboll does have intentions of implementing a WCO, then you would be getting a guy who is familiar with that system.

I certainly dont think he is worth a 1st or 2nd and I'm not advocating we make a trade for him. But there would be some sense in trading for him.

Where on earth did i say trade for him??????? I was saying pick him up in FA next year if we dont get Barkley, Jones or Luck. Those were not my exact words but thats what i meant. I thought it was obvious but maybe not.

In hindsight, Ryan might have been the better choice but at that time with the team they inherited they went with the safer option to try and get the team back on track. You could make an argument either way but Long was more of a sure-thing than Ryan was. Given the criticism of Henning and Sparano, Ryan might have turned out like Henne did.

Plus, we're talking about Parcells who doesn't value QB's very much. The Dolphins were going to be an old-school run the ball and control the clock team. I doubt Ireland had much input in that decision so I'm inclined to give him a pass.

This year, by the time the Dolphins drafted the only guy left was Mallet. Nobody wanted that kid, I don't know know why but he dropped all the way down to the 3rd for a reason.

I want a franchise QB as much as anyone but given the state of the offense last season and the lack of a sure-fire franchise QB being available, I'm cool with the direction they took. Get the o-line in order and get a running game going and at least Henne can manage the game if he can't turn things around.

If QB is still an issue next draft I'm sure they will get one.

How about if we give this team and this season a chance. The way most of you talk I realize there is a bunch of quitters on this site. I for one believe faith and hard work can get you far in life....give this team (and our QBs) a chance first.

not every owner is as clueless as the bidwells.. Hopefully that includes ross. Trading unproven qbs for "the farm" will not become the new paradigm for doing business just because of one set of idiots.

I don't doubt it. I'm sure any team would be excited to deal their backup qb who has very little game experience for a first or second round pick.

I love it when I come here and I find common sense. Thanks

Flynn will get a ton of money next year, Miami is a real possibility especially if we are 6-10 or so and OUT of the draft market for the big name guys

One of the 3 QB's coming out should be our QB for next year, and noone else.
