Should of, Could of, Would of... been the beginning of the Ryan Mallett Era...

taking thomas over mallet was stupid

ireland is a bonehead

it wasnt stupid if u understand the circumstances, and im in your corner. the dolphins should have found a way to draft mallett.

based on what player has a higher ceiling (if both reach their potential) and which player could have a larger potential positive effect on the team. yes its Mallett. but if ireland didnt find some players that could contribute right away and prove he can identify and deliver talent -he wasnt going to be around long enough for mallett to develop and prove his value. plain and simple irelands seat was probably a little warm and he needed to deliver on some guys that would contribute right away.

im not saying i agree with it, but what choice did he have?

with any luck lamaar miller will last to our first pick in second round, which I am assuming will be 33, and we will have a nice two headed monster at RB again.... ronnie and ricky have run their course here...

irelands future employers would understand miami taking a shot at mallet.

the career damage is done.

I was hoping for Mallett too (on draft day). In my worst case scenario I couldn't envision the team being any worse than last yr, so I thought Mallett may have been able to beat out Henne by mid-season and actually upgrade the team. HOWEVER, there were clearly character concerns with Mallett as well as an admission of drug use.

I do totally agree with your statement that bringing Ryan Mallett here might well be a waste of talent, not because of South Beach but the lack of good coaching. This season is a throw away.

However, can you share a link with the "character concerns with Mallett as well as an admission of drug use". Except for the predraft rumors, has anything ever been proven?

they probably would have brought ricky back if he didnt say the things he did about sparano after the season. these guys are big on 10+ and 20+ yard runs and holding onto the football. ricky just doesnt measure up in these categories anymore. plus hes 35 or almost 35, which even though hes been pretty durable, makes him more injury prone than he might have been at one point.

the guy just isnt a stud anymore. i like ricky. always did. even understood why he left. just saying its not a huge loss, kinda meaningless in the big picture especially since he didnt support the coaching staff (which i dont either)

We could use someone who can make two yards when he has to, or can see a blitz coming. Someone with experience and that takes care of himself and has some runs left in him. Again, I'm not talking about him being the starter.

If our FO really wanted long runs, why did they draft D Thomas and trade for R Bush?

D Thomas is great at getting 8-9 yards but even in college he did not have a lot of long runs. And I'm still trying to find out what his longest TD was. He tended to get ran down and tackled in his highlights. Same thing for R Bush, in only two out of five seasons with the Saints did he have a run over 23 yards.

Let's compare this season:

D Thomas has a long of 14 yards.

R Bush has a long of 16 yards.

R Williams has a long of 28 yards.

these guys didnt just make the team though. they have played very well. thomas needs to hold onto the ball and improve his blocking, but they have both shown signs they are going to be not just good, but very good players for us.

Sure, Pouncey has good bloodlines. I'm a Gator grad (class of 84') and I still live in Gainesville.

You do kind of expect the 16th pick in the draft to do well, unless he is Jason Allen or Ted Ginn etc. And yes, D Thomas does look good even though the chances of him breaking long runs in the NFL are small.

Saying that Pouncey has played well at Center is like saying that Jake long is a good LT. It is more like, yea, they had better be considering when they were drafted.

I'm really happy for Ricky that he left this mess and is now a member of a possible Super Bowl team.

thats not accurate bro, and youre a great poster. daniel thomas was drafted SPECIFICALLY because he had a KNACK for breaking 10 and 20 yard runs in college. and if there is one thing hes ALREADY shown in the pros is that same ability to take the ball 10 yards. he might not break 80 yarders. but hes already given us something we havent had since before ricky williams lost a step and could get to the edge.

i loved ricky man. not disagreeing that he couldnt have helped us this year. the fact remains - they just couldnt bring him back based on what he had to say in the offseason. do u really think sparano would have welcomed him back??

thats not accurate at all. go back and look at first round drafts the last 5 years. its not a given a first rounder is going to pan out, much less AS A ROOKIE be playing the position ESPECIALLY CENTER as one of the upper echelon centers in the game. so far pouncey hasnt been just a good pick. hes been a GREAT pick. hes helped our running game, he can get to the second level. and hes solidified our line - if only we had any lineman on the right side

We should have canned Sparano and brought Ricky back. Looks like ricky was Right on the money with what he said. But most here knew that already, the sparano boot lickers attacked him.

ricky WAS correct. i love the guy for saying what he did. and yes we were correct about sparano last year. and so was Ross. i find it funny that the heat Ross has taken for it, and the heat some of the posters took for wanting sparano gone. at least the homers have come to the dark side finally, and see what was obvious by the end of last year for most, and right from the beginning for some

Lets just look at our drafts. The only OL that have stayed on this team were drafted in the 1st round.

Mike Pouncey will never be Maurkice Pouncey, don't make the mistake of thinking Mike is at Maurkice's level. Mike is good, Maurkice is great.

Still, my point is valid. We drafted safe players and made sure they had ZERO competition for a starting job.

The only place where we had "competition" was at Fullback and Polite did not have a chance.

gotta have depth for competition my man. and parcells traded away that depth when he got rid of satele for a swap of picks and a 6th rounder i believe. and mike pouncey IS ALREADY maurkice pouncey. hes BEEN BETTER. the steelers lineman hasnt played to the hype.

and u talk about only the 1st rounders have produced?? john jerry WAS A GUY SPARANO WANTED. because he coached him at the senior bowl. ok sahwn murphy, and andrew gardner busted out but they were also picked under parcells watch and they were ALSO 4th and 5th (maybe 6th) rounders. how many players in those rounds bust out??? A TON. not enough to go here bud. u gotta HIT ON YOUR 1st and 2nd round guys. and the middle round guys u hope to find some gems.

for the FIRST TIME since parcells arrived WE HIT on our 1st and 2nd round guys. FIRST TIME. and it was when jeff ireland was CALLING THE SHOTS. EVERY other year parcells was in charge. not sure u have a point bub. and not really sure whats up with the mike pouncey pick hate
