The one realization that came to my mind yesterday.....was the sight of seeing RICKY WILLIAMS on the sidelines....when we were seemingly out of the "running game" and on to the heave and ho show.....featuring JAY Fiedler throwing to 4 wideouts...with ROBERT EDWARDS in there..as the pass catching, RB specialist.

My thoughts are......there he is.....RICKY....out of this game....for what? Is RICKY perhaps not the most likely out of anyone on this offense....even if we are indeed behind....to not get that football into that endzone faster than anyone could?

I mean...nothing against ROBERT EDWARDS....he should be in there...he is doing a nice job on third downs...but to permanately displace RICKY in the lineup....I am not sure about that.

RICKY WILLIAMS is a guy...I was thinking....who should NOT be on the sidelines.....at least....not for that long.

So what if the DOlphins are in a catch-up mode..... Does that mean we should just put our best offensive playmaker on the bench?

I mean....why give an opposing defense so much less to worry about? Just RiCKY's mere presence in the lineup....is enough for more than 1 defender to think about.... even as a decoy....he can help open up someone else.....

So now.... it seems......that whenever we are going to get behind late in the game......our best option now......is to take RICKY completely out of the lineup....and let JAY just try and wing it.....and if he has to throw or dump it off in the flats.....ROBERT EDWARDS will be in there.....not just for a couple of plays...while RICKY rests a little bit......but for the rest of the game.

Is there anything wring with RICKY maybe coming out for just a series or two.....before putting him back in there.....even if he is in there....just to block...or to come out and catch a pass?

The bottom line is that our offense is much better with RICKY WILLIAMS in the lineup....even though the running game is perhaps abandoned.

When you have a playmaker like this......why would you just say.....RICKY....I think that is going to be it for you today.....we are behind.....we have to play catch-up.....we will just play ROBERT EDWARDS for the rest of the game...and we will see you next week.

Just play Ricky... that should be the mindset....give him a rest.....yes....play ROBERT EDWARDS.....but I mean....to call it a day....when the running game is abandoned...and we have to play catch-up.... to have him done on the sidelines...as a spectator....I don't believe that is the best answer to score points in a hurry. When you have a talent like this.....you have got to keep him in the lineup.....regardless of the dire circumstances.

Thats just the way I see it.....

I was wondering the same thing. He's not Lamar Smith. He's better and faster. I could understand last year when we put Travis Minor in there on third and longs because of his speed. But this year, I say leave Ricky in there on 3rd downs. He can block the hell out of anybody, and can buy Jay more time to make better throws.

I was curious about the same thing. I like Edwards but RW is our best threat our of the backfeild 3rd down or not. He had 4 catches yesterday for 60 yards. That is 15 yards a catch and a better average than our WRs. I could see spelling him early, but when the game is on the line he is an every down back. I am still pissed we threw on 2 and 4 before Jay's int.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone- except Wanny and Norv- were thinking the same thing. Especially them giving up on the run when were down by just 10 with over 10 minutes to go. I was a very poor coaching move, and one that very well might have cost us the game.

Robert Edwards is the back used in the two minute offense. I am not saying I agree with this, it's what the Dolphin's brain trust decided to get Edwards some playing time. Maybe they will think twice before going to this scheme so early. But then that's how they practice so that's how they will play.

I couldn't agree more with DCH's post. Why take out your best playmaker when you're only down by 8pts.? I like Ricky's chances of taking a pass in the flat all the way more than I do the chances of connecting on the long bomb, which the Dolphins have struggled at since training camp opened. If nothing else, keep him in to block. Once he went to the sidelines, it was obvious the Dolphins were going to pass, so the safeties just played deep and waited for the overthrows. That was a very poor decision by the coaching staff IMO, there was plenty of time to mount a long drive or 2 featuring Ricky both running and catching. Instead they got impatient and threw the game away. No way your leading playmaker should be out of the game when it's that close in the 4th qtr.

I agree. I couldn't believe they weren't utilizing him more. Bottom line is, he's a playmaker. I also remembering reading somewhere that the O line gets psyched having him in there for the exact same reason. They know he is going to make something happen.
Even a minor shift in momentum could have turned that game around.

exactly, Edwards presense was an indication that we had abandoned the run. The argument needs to be that we should have run more w/Ricky. Once we go to 2 min. drill/3 and long O, Edwards is the man.

Was it a poor coaching move when the Fins drove over 60 yards on 5 plays, 4 of which were passes, for a TD to pull within the 8 points the drive prior to Jay's int????

Also Ricky was still in the game when it was an 8 point deficit.

I would aruge - Yes it was because we left our depleted pass D on the field too long. We need to let Ricky eat some clock...

Down 15 points in the 4th qtr you don't eat clock. You take what they give you D39. I have less a problem with the play calling as I do the execution. This team has been a pass first team so far this year, this game it cost us.

We were down 38-30 when we completely abandoned the run. At that point Ricky should have been back in there running the ball down their throats.

Even if we do abandon the run.. Ricky should still be in there.. he can catch can't he.. I remember a big screen pass not too long ago that would have gone the distance if not for a shoe string tackle.. You want your best offensive player in the game as much as possible... especially when the game is on the line.. What can edwards do that Ricky can't.. not that I have anything against edwards.. I just think the RIcky is mor capable of making a big play.. and the defense fears him more... I think this is bull crap to have a 3rd down back and a 2 minute offense back... ricky should be an every down back.. we did not trade all those picks away to get a 1st and 2nd down back as long as it's not 2 minute offense... I understand that you want to try and get Minor and edwards involved, but you should win with Ricky, or lose with him..

We were down 38-23 when we went on a 5 play 63 yard drive, that included 4 pass plays called, that resulted in a TD to pull within 8 points. We only ran 3 plays before turning the ball over and subsequently going down by 15 again.
