[h=2]This past Miami Dolphins season was a rough one for the franchise and fans alike. It was so disappointing that it left some calling for the front office to hit the reset button.[/h]So that may be one tough reset button to press and it doesn’t seem like an option that owner Stephen Ross and VP of Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum want to explore. But is that best for the Dolphins? Are they held back by average quarterback play? The trouble with that plan is the Dolphins have a $77 million save point in quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

The fourth-year quarterback from Texas A&M has regressed this season in the eyes of many and some, like the Sun Sentinel’s Omar Kelly, are suggesting the team move on to other options like Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch.

However, in order to move on from Tannehill, it should be figured out what has gone wrong with the 27-year-old starting QB rather than just pining for the shiniest new toy.

First, Tannehill was always going to be a project at the quarterback position. He played his first two years in college as a wide receiver. His first season as a quarterback for the Aggies he threw for only 1,638 yards in 13 games. It was only when he stood out as a senior that desperate-for-quarterback teams like the Dolphins and Browns started looking to draft Tannehill.

Your thoughts...? :ponder:

I dont see many teams interested in RT, maybe the Browns or the Rams would be a good trade partner, but I think both teams would rather draft a qb.

because that great football mind Omar says so ??? :bobdole:

I don't think so

What a silly idea. Yes, Ryan Tannehill regressed. So did Andrew Luck and no one's talking about starting over in Indianapolis.

You've got to really look at what Miami's problems are to understand why the team went 6-10. Start with a lack of a running game and lack of commitment to the running game. To his credit, Dan Campbell recognized this and the Dolphins ran the ball better under his command. Still, this is a team that doesn't run well in crucial spots (3rd and 1, putting the game away).

Which leads to another problem area for Miami. The Dolphins guards are below average. This showed up big in the division as the Bills and Jets were able to dominate with their quality defensive tackles. Lack of pass protection also hurt, as did having to pass so often.

I don't know if Tannehill will ever be elite, but if the Broncos can win the super bowl with a seriously limited Peyton Manning I'll take my chances with a still developing Ryan Tannehill.

Not to turn this into another Tannehill vs Luck debate, but no one is talking about Luck regressing because he showcased in his first 3 years that he can carry a team. The jury is still out on Tannehill even after his 4th year. I still think he can turn it around and pick up where he left off in 2014 with his deep ball placement of 2015.

I like how the first ballot hall of famer, former NFL mvp, offensive mvp, super bowl mvp, multiple super bowl champion, all time passing yard leader, etc has become the poster child for: if you can win with Manning you can win with anybody...

Dont you think this dead horse has been beaten enough? Writers must be bored

Ryan Tannehill was still playing WR the first 6 games of the 2010 season and didn't see extensive action at QB until the 7th game where he went 12 of 16 for 155 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan started the final 6 games and went 5-1, losing only to LSU in the bowl game.

Yes, because Manning tore the league apart this year with miraculous performance after miraculous performance.

You have to take into account that this particular poster is a big beleiver in #QBWINZ.... so when something like the 2015 Broncos happens, it kinda ****s up his whole argument...

The only detraction I ever see about Ryan Tannehill is the fantasy football argument of #QBwinz and his comparison to a team and coaches accomplishment of win/loss record.

IOW, total bull****.

You don't have to give up on him, but you do have to think of the future state of the team if he has another terrible season.

He hasn't accomplished anything in the NFL, if he fails in his 5th season your going to be a team in the middle of no where if you don't have another QB in place. How many QBs in the NFL get to start 5 straight seasons while accomplishing nothing? Every 5 year starter has had winning seasons, and made playoffs.

QB is most important position on the roster, and we have invested a lot, if not most of our resources in our offense.

Were not the Broncos, stop that nonsense. We need good qb play or were going no where and that's all there is to it.

Luck has made the playoffs in his first 3 seasons. Tannehill hasn't done anything. He is not a player that is going to put the team on his back, he is just an expensive version of Alex Smith.

Manning has the IT factor and a far superior football IQ than Ryan Tannehill. I don't think Broncos win superbowl if Tannehill was QB.
