What do you Dolfans think about the fins going back to the 4-3 defense?
Seems like we don't have enough talent at linebacker to run the 3-4 defense and the defensive line has more talent. Why not switch back to the 4-3 and start Jason Taylor and Kenard Langford at the ends, with Jason Feruson and Phillip Merling at the tackles. Then at LB you can start Joey Porter and Cameron Wake at outside linebacker and Channing Crowder in the middle. I think this would give the pass rush a much needed boost by putting your best players on the field. Also when the opponent is in obvious pass situations like third and long, how about replacing Crowder with Sean Smith and have him cover the tight end down field and send in an extra DB?

Langford is prototypical 3-4 DE and he has been awesome. I don;t want to change anything with him. Stick with the 3-4, just get better inside backers soon.

I was referring to the short term solution to our non existant pass rush, we need to do something now, I don't think we can pick up a decent LB on the waiver wire and it is highly unlikely another team would trade an inside linebacker this early in the season.

Rey Maualuga is looking so awesome for Cincinnati.

ugh

After finally getting the personnel in place to run the 3-4. That would be foolish.

Starks and Langford are both stud 3-4 DE's that probably wouldn't do as well at DT or DE in a 4-3 system. Merling might do well as a DE in a 4-3 system.

We need help at ILB, but I just don't see the 4-3 as a realistic option at this point.

Zero turnovers, no pass rush, unable to stop a team from driving 80 yards for a go ahead TD doesn't exactly show the Dolphins are set with the current cast of players in the 3-4?

Am I missing something here? Did somebody see something the last 3 games I didn't see?

I don't think the idea is stupid. I think that a the 4-3, though, would minimize the strength of our D - our DE's. I'm hoping we're a draft away from putting the final touches on the 3-4.

I thought this was sarcasm. I say no way but I'll bite....hypothetically.

Jason Taylor doesn't have enough gas left so Cameron Wake in rotation with JT at DE. Merling at the other DE spot. Langford and Ferguson at DT's with Starks in rotation. JP as an OLB in the 4-3 is a mismatch waiting to happen but moving on you would be better served to put Crowder at the other OLB and throw Ayodele, Anderson or Torbor at MLB.

I think we see why it wouldn't work.

We are struggling up front as it is. Moving guys around to this extent would be a nightmare.

I miss Matt Roth!

Crowder would suck as a MLB, he needs to be the plug LB in the 3/4 with a better LB beside him who can make some plays happen.

E.Berry with our 1st rounder and trading back in late to pick up B.Spikes will go along way in improving our defense.

that was who i wanted to draft so badly....when he made it out of round 1 I was hoping he made it to us with our first second rounder !
