For a safety of his caliber this news has to be concerning for many in the Dolphins front office. With the team attempting to get a new deal done in the near future without overpaying, questions of Jones value will be raised. With two years remaining on his current deal Miami will be in no hurry to make deal.

This raises a very intriguing question. If Reshad Jones is extremely intent on getting a new deal and the Dolphins are intent on not being pushed into a corner, should Jones be put on the trading block. While this may seem like a crazy move for the Dolphins, the current state of the team could help make a move like this make sense.

Um no. Let's let him ball hawk back there like he should instead of trying to have to come up and tackle like he's a linebacker. Dude put up Troy Polamalu numbers with our sorry LBs and we want to get rid of him???? I pray we aren't that stupid.

This team is already weak sauce at defense behind our line. Trading our lone wolf stud secondary man would be ridiculous.

he came to minicamp and said the holdout is behind him, he will be there at training camp, and he's ready to play football.

what "should be concerning" to dolphins fans? that he missed some offseason work because he wants more money?

where does this fool get off writing an article like that?

Depends on whether of not Jones can cover in the new defense. He'll be asked to do a lot more in coverage than in the prior system.

If he can't and that get's exposed in tape then value goes into the crapper and everybody including him/his agent will know it.

If he can maintain his high level of safety tape despite the new coverage responsibilities his value and next contract will go thru the roof.

Tough call, but sitting out and not doing everything (be in camp) he can to learn a defense was a stupid move.

No reason to trade him whatsoever. He is in his prime and a fantastic player.

Besides, if we start trading players that want more money, we would open up the flood gates for every Tom, Dick, and Harry who wants more money.

But, I would take a 1st for him. lol

I would only think about trading him if he sat out games.

Since he showed up to MC, think we can move past the holdout/new contract drama

Definitely not this year, if he holds out next year and wants too much....maybe.

One of the most overrated Dolphin players in recent history. If they can get good compensation, it certainly should be a consideration.

As I mentioned on another thread, Reshad Jones might not be a good fit for the new defense.

Reshad Jones might feel that he's not a good fit for the new defensive scheme.

We all talk about how CB Byron Maxwell will do better this year because of scheme. Just the same, some players can do worse with a new scheme.

In past years, Reshad Jones had cat-like Brent Grimes sticking to the best WR, which allowed Reshad Jones to focus more on the QBs eyes, and make big plays all over the field.

But in Vance Joseph's scheme, I believe that CB Byron Maxwell will be more of a press & follow guy, which means Reshad Jones will have to focus more on watching & covering WRs.

Recently, Wes Welker mentioned that he remembered Reshad Jones as a "pick on guy", which might hint that Reshad Jones is weak in coverage.

Reshad Jones is coming off of a monster year. So he might be looking to cash in NOW - via trade or new contract - before his stats collapse in a new scheme where he doesn't fit well.

Considering that he's coming off a monster year, and just went to the pro bowl, his trade value is probably very high right now. This might be the right time to trade him. It's something the Miami front office should consider, especially if we're getting good offers from other teams.

I get that the writer has an opinion. I just think that opinion is a loser's mentality:

With the team unlikely to challenge for a playoff spot in the next few seasons, the time would be now to move a player as talented as Jones.

Says who? This is the same logic that comes up w gems like, "hey, we went 6-10 with THESE guys so let's dump them for draft picks since we aren't doing anything WITH them". I don't like it at all. You stack talent. Jones is a stud. He's 28. Who's to say we won't challenge for a playoff spot now and for the next 3 years at that? If we get good QB play we absolutely should be in the playoff hunt.

Following this writer's logic we should trade Suh, dump Wake, dump Mario Williams, etc since they'll be antiques by the time we challenge for a playoff appearance. So who will be on the team in "a few years" when we'll finally be ready? Not a fan of these Nostradamus hacks.
