After he ran 5+ forty time at the combine?
I know combine numbers are just number but 5+ is too slow for elite DE.
That number reminds me ... C Harris even though they are different style DEs.

Good question. I think he's better than that time indicated, but that definitely gives me pause.

Miami hasn't had a lot of success lately with finding pass rushers. I think I'd look elsewhere.

So combine numbers don't matter but we shouldn't draft a guy because of his combne numbers?

Also if you're expecting to get an 'elite' DE at #26 then good luck.

Epenesa has excellent power and physicality but lacks explosiveness and penetration compared to those at the top of the class. A great run stopper but not such a dynamic edge rusher. That was the case before the combine, and it's the case after the combine.

I think Matos might be better?

No, he is slow, lacks explosion (which shows up when he plays). At least Epenesa can win with his hands.

I think you need to look to day 2...Robinson, Lewis, Highsmith for an edge guy. Or just skip it all together, it is a trash draft for edge so get the best players you can and hope for better next season. Worst thing you can do is reach for a player to fill a need in a draft where the position is not good at all.

Developing edge setter who needs proper seasoning. If we have some players around him he can probably grow more as a rusher. I'd take him at 26....Maybe even 18 because his size is something we currently lack on the line. Need more power as it is.

His combine scared the crap out of me and has me thinking a first is way too rich even in this weak edge class.

I wouldn’t throw stuff if A.J. was the pick at 26. I figure Flores knows his D better than I do. That being said I think he’ll be there early in round 3.

Espenesa is a great fir for Miami's scheme and I think he would be good value at 26. In fact I am seeing mocks where he is long gone by then.

I like Baun as a scheme fit as well, but 26 might be a bit early. Gross-Matos should be in the same area(late 1st)and is more athletic than Espenesa so that choice would be an eye of the beholder decision.

Chiasson probably does not make it to 18.

Those are the only edge guys I would be happy with in the 1st 40 picks or so.

Not a good year to be looking for pass rush help :(

Having watched draft results for decades, invariably there is a recap where a later pick "was projected to go in the first round, and we were ecstatic we got him at that [lower] pick." I could see him going in the 3rd, with that explanation.

I cant believe nobody is high on Alex Highsmith out of Charlotte. Bradlee Anae too, out of Utah.
