Bill Parcells once famously said of young players: “If they don’t bite when they’re puppies, they usually won’t bite.”

So how concerned should the Dolphins be that Charles Harris produced just two sacks and 19 tackles in 15 games (and 496 defensive snaps) as a rookie?

If Harris — the 22nd overall pick in 2017 — was going to be a high-end pass rusher, wouldn’t he have shown more as a rookie than merely two sacks in 309 pass rushing opportunities?

I think it's too early to pass judgment. He came in needing to improve his POA run skills, so it was not a big surprise that he wasn't a day one starter. It takes most D ends a season or two to start reaching their potential. Even the great JT was no great shakes until late in his second season.

We should have a better answer about week 10.

If he can't produce this year, then I'll be concerned. On numerous occasions he was really close to some sacks, but he just missed. We'll find out what he learned during the first few games this year. Hopefully he can just use his physical skills, and not have to think so much (which he seemed to do last year).

He’s got the burst - the quickness.

He needs 20 to 30 pounds of muscle and power.

He will be ok because he can be part of a rotation.

He will get a few sacks.

But until he can drive a tackle into a QB forget it - he’ll be average

We drafted him as a project, had Cam Wake coming off an All Pro year, what appeared to be a solid starter in Branch and traded for the best run stopping DE in football with Hayes. As DrMultimedia said he improved throughout the year and had a ton of pressures the back half of the season. It might be hard for him to see time on pass rushing downs with Quinn looking like he is 100% next to Cam early on, but the Eagles proved how valuable depth at DE is and I think he will get his snaps this year. Let’s hope he shows enough to give us flexibility going into the offseason with Hayes and Wake both at the end of their deals and Branch not worthy of a $10m cap hit.

30 pounds would be too much for him IMO. His quickness would probably suffer.

Hum I think he will solid to very good. Reports from other players are solid about him and they know more than us plus he seems to have the right college additude imo.

I’m concerned, been concerned. At this point I’m expecting an above average DE. Which would be ok and probably a big reason why the Quinn trade was such a solid move.

Pass rushing is great, but if the Dolphins are always playing catch up on offense because they're always falling behind, then the other team will just run to kill the clock, thereby negating his pass rushing abilities.

First rounders should not be projects. They should be pro bowlers. In the last 8 years that has only happened once (Pouncey) although I will say Fitz is looking like he will break the streak.

He seems to be a good kid and has a great work ethic. With Quinn and Wake as mentors and his self driven goal to improve, I think he will get better each year. This year will be better than last statistically, but I think it will be in his 3rd year that he makes a name for himself.

Reminds me of matt Roth with longer arms. High motor try hard guy with limited ability.

Yeah, except he's a black guy from Missouri and not a white guy from Iowa, so the reputation was higher and he was drafted a round earlier. Maybe that won't be appreciated but I think there's merit to it. When I saw Harris' stats I assumed he was a great athlete and I saw scouting reports along those lines. It really wasn't until I started reading some of Slimm's summaries here that I realized he was correct, that Harris simply wasn't much of an athlete, especially given where he was being projected to go in the draft.
