Cowboys OG Ronald Leary is skipping OTAs as he seeks a trade.
Playing under his one-year, $2.553 million restricted free agent tender, Leary wants out of Big D after spending 75 percent of 2015 as a healthy scratch. Leary was a starter in 2013-14, but fell behind talented rookie La'El Collins early last season. The Cowboys seem willing to move Leary, but executive Stephen Jones has said he won't be "given away." Leary is a $2.553 million redundancy for the Cowboys' dominant line. A trade is probably an inevitability. May 24 - 4:33 PM

Yes, yes and yes. That would be fantastic for us this season. We have 2 guard spots to fill and if Albert can stay healthy Tunsil can fill one this season. Next year, when Tunsil replaces Albert it will leave us with only 1 guard slot to fill.

Please bring Leary to Miami. We need him.

I think I would be more excited about Leary, Pouncy, James and Tunsil than I am about Tunsil, Pouncy, James and Albert.

Didn't they give him a 2nd round tender? Look I would be all for his addition but not for a 2nd. If we can muster something else up sure

I seriously doubt the Cowboys could demand a 2nd, they are in a tough situation and as indicated a trade is inevitable.

I'm guessing as high as a 3rd but that he could be had for a 4th.

I advocated for us to give him a serious look as a RFA before the draft, this is a chance for us to shore up every weak link on the line and we all know one guard position is very much up in the air as to who even starts.

Let's do this!

Can we really afford to give up a pick for him? Pre-draft I say yes, however we kinda painted ourselves into the corner by making the trades we made.

First time I've said this in a long time, but we don't need him. Not to mention the fact that we used the draft pick they'd want on getting carroo.

You're a very knowledgeable poster, really enjoy a lot of what you say, but I really can't stand this notion that we need 2 guards. No position is assured obviously. No two guard spots are going to be filled by star players either. As it stands we have an opening at 1 guard spot. Tunsil occupies LG. At RG we have one of Bushrod, Turner, Urbik or Douglas. I'm sorry, but that's enough depth and upside to not label it as a huge need at all. The position we're in this year is light-years better than last year. Yes Albert is injury prone, then you're probably looking at an OL of Tunsil-Turner-Pouncey-Bushrod-James. That o-line is still capable.

Would I take another guard? Ya probably, just further solidify the OL. But this team was held back so significantly by scheme and a horrible coaching staff. Dallas Thomas is no longer a starter, and he was the biggest failure we had year in and year out. Bushrod is an NFL starter if he's healthy, I think he's going to do a great job. Urbik has proven he can be an average to below average OG in this league. That is much better than what we've had, he's a backup who is better than last year's starters.

Last year in the event of an injury to Albert, we had no backup LT. Now we have Bushrod or Tunsil. At guard we had to pick two starters from Turner, Thomas, Douglas and Linkenbach... now we get to chose between Turner, Douglas, Bushrod and Urbik for one spot. This situation is leaps and bounds better than last year's. Worry about CB, worry about depth behind Alonso. Worry about RB depth. Those are bigger fish to fry. I just can't agree with you on this one. This entire football team's growth was stunted by the past regime. Between their coaching and inability to move failures out of the lineup. The degree to which the Philbin lead Dolphins were handcuffed will become very clear next season. This OL is poised to be much improved.

But much improved doesn't say much considering what we have had. Would you say we have a good line? If not why would you not want to try to make it good? If you can get a good starting offensive guard for a 4th or 5th I think you make that deal. It's easy to say our line is better than before but it still needs work for sure

Could we please just give it up about the draft day trades. There is absolutely no way of knowing if we could have done better or not at this point making those arguments moot at best. At least the front office got the players they wanted and targeted. You can add four more picks to our draft and who's to say they wouldn't have all been busts. It's practically four weeks in the past can't we just let it go?

Not to mention we have a few compensation picks to work with next year. I guess the real question would be, could we get similar value with one of those pics next year in the draft? Is it a given, or are reach? Admittedly I know nothing about Leery, his injury history, age, or his future potential. I do know one thing, sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If he's an improvement and can be locked down for a few years I would hope the FO would at least make an effort.
