Hey Guys, I dont post to often, but I am a long long long time lurker...

Sam signed with the Giants for a 4 yr 7.4 million dollar contract. with 2 million in signing bonus. I think it breaks down to around 2 mil a yr.

now i dont know what you guys think but I've been wondering for a long time "why didnt we keep him as a second or third corner for a contract like that"

I mean its not like thats a big contract. maybe a bit long but geez.. 2 mil a yr for a pro bowl corner (who's talent may be on the down side) but still.

It's just hurts to lose Sam.. The guy could play..

You think maybe Saban just hated the fact that the guy was so one dimensional in just being able to cover and not tackle..

any thoughts?

I'm hoping not to get ripped here...

Sam was good for us a for a long time. Madison and Surtain both did alot while they were here but it's time to move on. Will Allen and Travis Daniels will do fine for us. They will be able to excell more in Saban's system than madison would. Fact of the matter is we can't really do anything to get Madison back even if we wanted to.

good post, i was thinking the same thing, but i think it was time to move on...madison just didnt cut it anymore, and i honestly think we are better off with allen and daniels poole goodman hill, we are younger and faster, and just better....if you think about it we now have more speed and better tacke=lers, allen, daniels, hill, poole are al great tacklers

Time will tell at the end of the season, basically we swapped corners with NY so we will see who ends up with the better stats... Madison or Allen

Will Allen is basically the same player as Madison plus he is a better Tackler. The biggest thing with losing Madison may be the leadership he brought. If we were going to keep a CB i wish we could have found a way to keep Surtain. I would rather still have Surtain Than Madison, or Roth the player we got because of the Surtain deal.

Bottom line is Sam could not tackle. He was useless in run support. Saban wants corners who arent afraid to take a hit (ala Will Allen). Plus the fact that Madison is getting old and his coverage has slipped in the past few years. While I like him it was definitely time to move on.

Its time to move on. Too many people love to live in the past. Madison didn't fit into Saban's schemes. Get over it.

Great pick KingCrowde! The Crown kills me for some reason:lol:

Keeping Surtain wasnt an option at 8 million a year, plus he was a bust last year for KC so im glad we didnt resign him. Madison on the other hand could have been kept for 2 million, but im sure Saban wouldnt let go of a talent like that if it wasnt necessary

The funniest thing is when you say " I don't post often" and this is your second post.....no sarcasm....that's funnY

Surtain was also in the last year of his contract. had we of re-signed him that 8Mil would have been lower. Also Surtain was hurt last year so it is hard to judge his performance based on that.

No It was time for Sam to move on. I think we basicaly filled his spot with the same type of player in Will Allen. I wish all the luck to sam except when they play the Fins in 07. Go fins

Madison would not have played for that kind of a salary for us. He would have had to take a huge paycut and seemed to want to test the market. We got much younger in the secondary by replacing him with W. Allen who was a former first round pick with great speed and good zone covering skills that fit our system better, even if he hasn't played exceptional the last year or 2.
