I feel that we must sign a vet running back now in FA- a big dude to help block ahead of Miller or used in short yardage situations.

meh sure as hell not a must, can get one in the draft easily

I'd try to get Blount at a discount. Didn't Hickey draft him ?
He's exactly want you described you want to compliment Miller.
If not get someone in the draft to replace Thomas.

There's like zero market for RB's right now. Sign someone cheap as all the FA dust settles.

Also got rid of him dirt cheap as well

True. I still like his running style.

Buyer market so take advantage of it and get a solid back cheap.

This really isn't a concern to me atm, as of right now we don't have anyone that I'd be confident in on both guard spots, the right tackle, or the second corner spot. At least Lamar and DT are viable options to go through another year

We have one RB that is worth rostering based on merit: Miller.
We have one RB that is worth based on needing more info: Gillislee.
We have 2 RBs that should be cut yesterday: Thigpen and Thomas.

We should explore RBs in the draft and FA.

I say wait for the draft. I still have faith in Miller. People doubt him but just like Tannehill he also was behind the worse line in football. Draft another running back to pair with Miller. If Miller fails you have the rook to fall back on to prove it.

I kinda agree here but I'm not sold on Miller. Pigpen is dreadful as a returner and useless in the backfield. Thomas is really a back-up in this league. I would like to see us draft a couple RBs - I don't really like any of the FAs - unless we can pick up Blount.

What we need most is to open holes for Miller (duh!). With an o-line executing tackles and opening up a lane for Miller, we'll see the guy burst into their defensive back field like a bat out of hell. Adding a burly third-down back in the mix will pretty much (I would think) remedy the ground game issue(s); making opposing defenses play us honest and easing-up the work load for Tanne as well.

That's my angle for what it is worth.

That is why we give Miller a second chance. I would rather draft a back and compliment him with Miller. I am not a huge fan of the free agent backs personally.

Wait for draft day. None of those available really excite me. Either too old, poor form, over rated. They just dont excite me. Would love to have signed Toby Gerhardt, but that chance has gone. Draft either Hyde, Sims, Sankey in the 3rd or 4th.

Carlos Hyde:

Height 6' 0"
Weighs 242 lbs.

Rushing:
yd 1521
adv 7.3
TDs 15

Receiving:
rec 16
yd 147
TDs 3

Ran the 40 in 4.66.

Hometown: Naples, Florida

I said other. We can lay back and if someone falls to us in the draft then great, if not, there will be plenty of serviceable backs once roster cuts happen before the season starts.
