I have read a lot of threads and articles about Penny, saying how bad he is and how he can only take the fins so far. Some say he has no arm, some say we went to the wildcat because we have no QB. Others say he makes bad decisions and can’t win a playoff game.

To all this I say it a bunch of BUNK! Here are the reasons:

It’s true that Penny does not have a strong arm and that he can not fling a ball 60-70 yards down the field like a Ryan or Cutler can do. But what he can do is put the ball there accurately. Even the Media deems him as one of the most accurate passers playing today. If he has time he can pick apart any defense. We all saw him do it many times last season. With the receivers he has in camp right now it is tailor made for him, most are slot types that catch passes in the 10-30 yard range. Ginn being the only deep threat at this point. The receiver group plays right into penny’s strengths. So to say he has no arm just does not hold up. The job of the QB is to lead the offense and move them down the field, not to throw 70 yard bombs, if you want that go cheer for Oakland…….

As for the wildcat the coaching staff did not switch to it because they felt they had no QB they switched to it to open up the running game. With the OL they had last year early on they were still meshing into a unit and during that time the running game suffered badly. Penny’s throwing kept the fins in the season opener vs. the Jets. As for the Arizona game it was just one of those games where they got their butts handed to them plain and simple, it was a total team failure, not just Penny’s. After the Wildcat was used in the Pats game, the running game opened up some which helped the passing game as well.

To say that penny chokes in playoff games may not be a fair statement, since he has only played in one for the dolphins so far. I believe I saw a post that showed in his career he had 6 playoff games and that 2 were won with 4 losses. That may be correct I’m not sure I have not researched it to be sure. But the point is don’t judge him on the one playoff loss against the Ravens. If you watched the game you saw that he had no time to throw because the defense was in his face all day. Once the Dolphin fell behind, he threw some passes that he should not have because he was trying to make something happen. Hats off to the Raven defense they played great that day.

It is my hope that he stays healthy this year, to me that is the only real knock I see in him he’s been injury prone his whole career. However if the conditioning program the Dolphins have in place works as well as it did last year I think he has a good chance to make it through the season.

Do I feel that Chad Henne is the future…..? yes but not just yet, as long as penny stays productive and continues to win games and provide the leadership he showed last year, you ride that train as long as possible.

Show the guy a little love people he deserves it.:woot:

Watch out bro'... There are alot on here who hone in on a 'Praise Penny' thread like a Tomohawk missile... Having the nerve to say that 'Penny deserves credit' is like the bat signal... Right now all over the world there are pagers going off alerting these crimefighters and they will arrive with their phasers set on 'homer'...

Juvenile? Of course but I couldn't resist.

hell ya the dude deserves credit... He deserves the lion's share.

Without Pennington, we would not have won 11 games and won the division. I don't understand the fans that want Henne to start right away. Don't get me wrong, I like Henne and think he has a bright future, but he has not proven anything yet. Pennington is a proven starting QB. If Pennington can stay healthy, and continue to play at the level he did last season, I would be happy to see him start for at least another season. If the coaches believe that Henne can play at a higher level than Pennington, then I would put my trust in them. But if it were me, I would stick with Pennington as long as he continued to play at a high level.

I don't understand it either, someone who is the leader of the offense, and was runnerup MVP on the team. Plus comeback player of the year for the NFL. they don't give those out to a no arm, can't win a game QB.. Makes you wonder what some people are smoking.

My take on Pennington:

He doesn't have the physical ability to carry a team deep in the playoffs.

But, he's more than capable of taking a great team to the SB. If you put him on either of the recent Pittsburgh teams, I think he takes them to the SB and probably wins.

No QB can do it on his own, Dolphins history clearly shows that. Great TEAMS win championships.

Its real simple, without Penny we are not 11-5 Division Champs, Period!!!

If the staff believes in Henne so much why isn't he starting now when they have Penny to help him through preparation and learning the league?

For many of you Henne man lovers be prepared to be dissapointed. I agree with many, Henne is promising and looks to be our future but for the players on this team, the coaching staff, the FO and many Dolfans the future is now and Penny is the now.

I think a lot of people become blinded by Ryan's immediate success and Flacco's management of an otherwise elite team. Henne will surely be just as good and have the same immediate success, right?

The majority of examples suggest that while Henne may eventually be a good to great QB for us, it will take some time for him to get there. With Pennington, we have a legitimate shot to WIN NOW...heck, does that AFC East crown not mean anything to people? Suddenly we take that for granted and want to ditch Penny because "he can't take us deep into the playoffs"?? A year and a half ago we could not even IMAGINE competing for the division for years to come! Should the majority of NFL teams just ditch their QBs because those QB's "can't win deep into the playoffs?" Seriously?

I love how it's the lack of arm strength that can't win you games deep in the playoffs. I'll tell you what - Pennington's leadership and intelligence are more likely to win you deep playoff games than a canon arm. Yes, the guy has an obvious Achilles' heel which the Ravens exploited beautifully, but outside of a handful of QBs you can count on one hand, which QBs don't have certain weaknesses in their game? To argue that Pennington's weakness is somehow not surmountable for a team is ridiculous.

Henne will eventually be our QB, but he's going to have his share of weaknesses too. Some of you guys think he's going to be a world-beater without really having much to base it on aside from hope and the fact he has a strong arm, a fact that is probably magnified because you have a direct daily comparison to Pennington. The guy didn't even have that amazing of a college career. If he does end up being successful, I guarantee it will have been because of the time he spent learning and maturing behind Pennington. Start him too early and his career trajectory would probably look a lot like Trent Edwards.

Be thankful for what Pennington brings to the table (and it's quite a bit)...when he's gone I have no doubts we'll be missing those things.

This is his last shot at a Super Bowl I hope he can get it done. I think he has a shot if they can run the ball consistently late in the season and the defense improves.

I love Penny.....I think he has what it takes to take a great Defense to the Super Bowl and win, I do not have confidence he can do it without a great defense going up against a great defense.

My question is this......Would you take back picking up Penny last yr and give the ball to Henne and go 6-10 instead of having Penny and going 11-5 if you knew Henne would get valuable playing time, Or is it more important to bring a winning atmosphere to the team......give them a little swagger....a chip on the shoulder attitude this yr.?

I liked the way it played out, one more yr of Penny then let the real competition begin.

i am confident that this board is comprised of 80% Henne groupies, 10% penny lovers and 10% penny lovers slash(/)white pumpers just to piss off the henne groupies......

I for one, love penny. And his accuracty is not just some atribute analysts have givin him as one of the "more accurate qbs today" no its in the books, Penny has the best completion percentage in NFL history.

as i've said before, until he can put together back to back great seasons and shine on a national stage he will not be recognized.

HOWEVER, if penny can do well this year, with the hard schedule, the bunch of national games etc....i garuntee u he'll have his share of riders too, and all they'll say is "most accurate qb ever, amazing" blah blah blah...he has just lacked the national stage so he has lacked attention, and in this league lets face it, if u dont win the big one in feb. you dont matter..(except dan) .... I really like penny tho and im telling u now, if he cant put together a good season this year, then he'll move on and hell have 1-2 more solid seasons with other teams but will never be mentioned in years to come, HOWEVER if he succeeds this year hell go down in history as he should...

as for the Henne groupies, im not tottally sure what their deal is. IM NOT SAYING I DONT LIKE HENNE!!! b/c Henne has a rocket arm, an incredible spiral that honestly does remind me of Dan, and i am so excited that we have Henne and White on our squad - to me our QB corps is elite. and i think after penny either plays a few more good years or flops this year, those 2 guys will continue to be a great pair, esp if the wildcat sticks around. The only problem i have however is that these ppl seem to think Henne IS dan already. I dont really see a basis for this. His college resume is good but not WONDERFUL. I feel like ppl love henne just b/c he was a QB and a draft pick of the trifecta in their first year. We have been missing a QB since we had argueably the best in history so i can see why they latch on to him. However, we have a proven starter right now, and these ppl need to realize that and realize henne is not fully proven at all rite now. Dont call for pennys head until he truely shows he is no good. Until the be happy our future franchise qb is being mentored by THE MOST ACCURATE QB IN HISTORY...
