I also like Waller but he was just another in a. long line of McGrier moves- a short cut, and one that like all of their moves, had little chance of lasting more than a few games.I fully agree with you. The sad thing about that is, his leading receiver in 2024 was a TE, who enjoyed a career season.
Yet he and Grier still bypass Warren, an elite TE prospect, in the April draft then double down by trading away Smith in June.
I actually like Waller (when healthy) and Dulcich, but neither are anywhere near as good as Warren. And Waller is 33.
We’ve seen the impact Travis Kelce has had during his career in KC and Rob Gronkowski in NE and TB, both playing integral roles of building dynasties that won 7 Super Bowls between them. We’ve seen the impact of George Kittle in SF, who has been a key component to the Niners success, advancing to two Super Bowl’s.
Warren may never be as good or impactful as those guys, but he’s off to a pretty darn good start and those types of talents do not grow on trees. When one becomes available to a team — they are ignorant not to take that player.
Like James Daniels, they got Waller on the cheap because of his age and injury history.
I think Warren is going to be as good as most of those TEs you mentioned if he has any kind of QB in Indy and stays healthy.
TE is an important position and one this team hasn't prioritized through the draft. that should change but I doubt it will if McDaniel stays.
