I saw the ESPN special on him last week, he seems like he has a strong desire to reprove himself in the league. He was saying how no teams have contacted him so far. He is 34, old for a contact position player, but he is arguably one of the best defensive ends of all time. I don't see the harm in Miami giving him a look, no loss if it does not work out.

Is now the time you want to start filling the defense with old guys like Rice and Law?

I am shocked that he is not retired. Good luck to him, but not here. We are good at defensive end, I am all for bringing in the old guys where we need them to mentor the young players or even to fill a critical need. But we are pretty happy with our "old guy" Holliday at Defensive end.

quite frankly, i don't know where Rice would fit in with us. he's slowed down considerably, so i doubt he would be able to play OLB. as far as DE goes, i don't think he'd hold up here, and even if he did i'd rather give Langford and Merling the playing time instead of Rice. there's nothing to be gained by bringing him in IMO.

Look at DE

Starks
Merling
Langford

all young and very good. Starks looks like he is going to force Holliday out next year. There is no way BP does not continue to stock pile DE's - he LOVES DE and OLB.

It makes ZERO sense to bring in Rice. There are alot of teams looking for DE help and him not getting a call just like TLaw should tell folks what teams around the league think about their abilities and contract demands.

Stick with the young guys!!

Simeon Rice is a 4-3 DE. He is built a la Jason Taylor. If Rice was signed, it would be as an OLB, which we are pretty set at in my opinion, this season atleast. Even if we weren't, I'm not confident Rice could adjust to OLB in a 3-4 scheme. With his injury history, I'm not even sure he could hold up the rest of the year as an OLB......

At this point if you sign a Simeon Rice, he's a part time player...and that would actually work out OK for us because that's all we need him for. We're set at OLB in the 3-4, we're set at DE in the 3-4. What we don't necessarily have is that wild pass rush when we go to 4-man alignments...which we do with fair frequency. We've been trying guys like Charlie Anderson, Quentin Moses, and recently some more Matt Roth, when we get to those alignments. IMO, none of those guys get the job done as a down DE in a 4-man setup. Simeon Rice *might*...so you'd at least have to consider it. But, to do it, you have to shelf someone that maybe they're trying to develop a little more...like a Moses or Anderson. So, it's a tough question to balance out, especially when/if you start negotiating with Simeon and he's still thinking that he's a starting quality DE, deserves to play like a starter, deserves to get paid like a starter, etc.

I dont want Rice atking any time away from our rookies....this is crucial game experience...lets not lose focus on what the ultimate goal is here...

Unless he or any available vet can play WR or defensive secondary and improve on what we have... I say pass.

Nooo,i kinda dig our current group of DE and their youth....Rice has had a good career, has a SB ring, and a few trips to the PB to show for it,but i like the youth we have at our DE positions and how they're playing....
