Sirius/XM merger going down today........all sports in one place

:woot:
I've been waiting and hoping that this would really happen.
I have XM, mainly for MLB. I don't make a habit of traveling on Sundays, and have Direct TV. But, it drives me crazy that XM doesn't have SEC sports.

Is this for certain? If so, Woo HOO to getting the MLB package! I have Sirius mainly for Stern, football and of course, commercial free music. But to get MLB now on top of it, makes the pot even sweeter.

It Is Official!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first they have to go through the dept of justice and the FCC.

the FCC when granting them a license had a rule put in which one company couldn't own the other company.

just last month, the FCC chairman said he wanted two players and no monopoly.

The companies will operate independantly till the end of the year. Then in January they will merge the programing.

At least thats what the EMAIL SIRIUS sent me

I believe this would be a monopoly. Unless there is a third competitor

That's a bit of a let down. My need for instant gratification won't be able to handle 10 months :nono:

1) HD Radio is competition as well as old fashioned radio

2) They can throw out an Al La Carte option and that takes away a monopoly becuase you only get what you pay for! It then becomes all about choice!!

3) If the price stays the same or in check......they can't stop the merger!

4) The FCC commishioner yesterday said as long as the company proves that a merge won't hurt the consumer that their shouldn't be any problems

1) I know, its just that there are only two satellite radio statons so wouldn't this be a monopoly over that specific medium?

2)Ok I see what you mean. It is the consumer's choice.

3) the FCC will be watching closely then, I doubt that they'll do anything stupid.

You can also argue that ipods and mp3 players in general are also competition. I don't think they even try the merger unless they were certain they could get it past the government. This is a done deal in my opinion.

I just wish I could get baseball THIS year instead of next...lousy impatience.
