It's not the offseason yet (and hopefully won't be for us for a while!), but I thought I'd post this poll to get some thoughts in a potential either/or situation.

This regime might not be ready to overpay for skill positions yet and is still likely to spend cash and draft picks on DL, OL, and LBs, at least for one more offseason. That being said, I'm sure all of us are aware of the glaring needs at two major skill positions - CB and WR.

So my question is rather simple - would you be happier if the FO spent cash or draft picks (or both) on a proven #1 receiver or on a proven #1 corner, while drafting for the other skill position in the first 3-4 rounds?

Example for option 1: Show Asomugha the money and draft one of the receivers being discussed in the #1 WR thread.
Example for option 2: Trade for Boldin and draft a CB in rounds 1-2.

i think without a doubt theres a larger need for young talent at the cb position. honestly even though it would be helpfull to get a good wide out our wrs have been playing out of their mind and i couldnt ask more of them. that said it would be nice if both are adressed during the offseason. but boldin will just take way to much to get. id rather see what the FA market can do or a late first day draft pick and an early one on a cb

i dont feel we need to overspend for either lets get young guys in the draft or free agency with upside instead of guys like keith Davis and Nate Jones who are as good as they will ever get. Look for Randy Starks at Db or Justin Smiley.

When can we stop talking about this issue of who we are going to get in the offseason? Cant this stuff wait till we are finished with THE PLAYOFF RUN we are CURRENTLY ON?????????

You guys do realize we are in the mix right now dont you? And you do realize that despite the fact that we clearly arent the best team in the league, if we do get in the playoffs all we have to do is string together some wins and WE CAN win a title this season. Its not like its impossible.

Hell, there is a chance that if we can get to 11-5 and win the rest of our AFC games, that we can get the 2nd seed in the playoffs and a first round bye. That means we win one game at home vs. a team we are certainly capable of beating and then unless Tennessee gets upset in their first playoff game(which is entirely possible btw) we go there and put together our best game of the year and beat them. That would mean we are IN THE SUPER BOWL. Its not entirely out of the question people. Geez.

But, everyone is worried about what we are going to do in the offseason to improve a team that as it stands right now, has a legitimate shot to win the division and possibly go to the bowl. Ridiculous.

Easy there, tiger. It's just something to talk about - nobody's denying we've got a legit shot at the playoffs/division and maybe even a bye.

But remember, we're doing TWO things this year - competing NOW *and* building for the future. Just as I disagree with folks who shoot down talking about playoffs this year while we're rebuilding, I'm going to have to disagree with you that it's somehow ridiculous to talk about rebuilding while we're competing.

If you look at our offense, yes we need a #1 wide out, but we are the #8 overall offense in the league and 9th in passing offense. So we really haven't struggled much with our current receivers. On defense, if we had a shut down corner like Asomugha we automatically win that game against Houston because there is no way Andre Johnson torches us for 150 or whatever against Asomugha.

I think he means a player like Randy Starks that was back up that hardly played for a good team and can come here and contribute more. Or maybe a guy like Smiley that is a good player on a bad team.

Draft them both...there is no point in paying big bucks for any free agent IMO...
