skolnick is a *******

this whole war thing is stupid. I understand the point skolnick is trying to make and by the way its a lame one. the NFL is such big business that teams probably do put in the kind of time and preparation that is comparable to some of war. and the game is a war lets face it.

i like the analogy to like it towards gladiators in the arena. all the fans and whatnot. but skolnick just being a little limp wrist loser has to start **** with saban because he aint got **** else to write about than this.

how did you guys feel about the two skolnick articles that refer to the war analogy made by saban?

EDIT: Here's the new column. Muck

Saban wont give the media anything and they hate him for it!

He finally gave them an opening so they took their shot!

I thought the article was weak.

I think it's a relevant point by Skolnick while the country IS at war.

Muck made my thread better :cooldude:

honestly i don't think skolnick could care less. I'm sick and tired of the local media just trashing the home team. they have been doing it for years.

i dunno....skolnick is certainly reaching far with those two articles imo.

I retired from the Navy a few years back. Personally, I don't think playing football is anything like being in a war, and I do think it ridiculous that some of the players use the war analogy, but feel its simply due to ignorance. I'm not offended by it. However, I do think game planning is analgous to war planning. Frankly, it appeared to me that this is what Saban was saying. I think Skolnick chose the wrong situation to try to make his point. I often find myself utilizing things I learned in the service in my daily business activities. Is that offensive to other vets? Interestingly, when I was at the War College, we studied business cases to help us learn different management styles. I hope I haven't offended any business people!

Being in the army for 7 years, makes you understand what war is really all about, and I can see why some people get upset when others reference a sport to war because people/relatives are dieing over there at "WAR" and people aren't exactly killing eachother on the football field!!! BUT......... I also understand the analogy as well, people are taking their words waaaaaay too literally, they obviously don't mean they're actually going to "war" it's just like an expression, basically they're sayng it's very tough, and physically demanding, and they have to give it EVERYTHING they have to beat their opponent

We use terms like "the trenches", "war room" and loads of other war related terms about sports every day. How it can suprise Skolnick that Saban uses them aswell is beyond me. Horribly stupid article (both of them).

War
2.
a.
A condition of active antagonism or contention: a war of words; a price war.

For a writer he should have a better understanding of the definition of words.

I love our troops and my country and the things that they do for me and my family. But to beat to death an analogy that a professional football head coach made is silly. To me, to go on and on about it, cheapens what they are really doing over there. Someone who has access to a public forum like a newspaper should know this already. Saban didn't mean any disrespect we all know it, it should be left at that. Quite frankly skolnick is twisting a sensitive topic to sell himself and his opinions. I think that is a bigger crime than what Saban did.

Well said. That's the impression created by these articles.
