Why aren't we running a hell of alot more slant patterns? We need to utilize the middle of the field. Slant patterns allow you playmakers to make plays, it offsets the Biltz, it opens up the deep pass.. it does so much!

Anyway.. I see teams using this as a staple of their offense... Welker on a slant couls be special.. Boston could be intersting, and good for his confidence.

We need this play.. we need to use it well... and often.
Thoughts?

I totally agree. I remember they ran a beautiful one in the first drive of the Carolina game where Gus hit Chambers for like 25 yards. They should use it A LOT more IMO.

Absolutely necessary. The only reason i could think of is it becomes dangerous if you have an inaccurate QB. but I saw Gus hit those in preseason so I think we need to throw those. The bread and butter for a qb is the 10-20 yd pass. Right now everything's either a dump off or a bomb. We need to mix it up

I've been thinking the same thing. Seems like our passing offense does nothing but attack the edges of the defense. I was at the Buffalo game and we seem very tentative in the passing game.

Gus should have been picked off by Rhonde in one on Sunday's game, but he had Welker in the slot wide open...all about picking the right one....I don't care, but our offense HAS to be run first, and PA passing

I think its much riskier to throw outside the numbers than to throw a quick 3 step slant.
We're not utilizing this play to our advantage. Its the only thing I can think of that could give us consistent momentum.. its difficult to defend if routes are ran correctly.
we should be throwing at least 1 per 2 series IMO

I honestly think that the Wide Receivers are as much of the reason just as the as the playcalling, we definitely do need to be calling a lot more slant patterns but our Wide Receivers (with the exception of Wes Welker mostly) have been very disappointing.

the fins ran plenty of slants in the two wins. in the losses, especially the last two, teams have been sitting on the slants.

defenses want gus to throw deep and linehan gladly does. the slant isnt there very much

They just don't seem to be getting any separation. Makes me wonder. Our defense seems to be playing way off opponents receivers. I wonder if that happens in practise where our guys are not getting bumped off the line? Maybe when they get into a game situation they are not accustomed to the bump and run coverage?
They need to do something. And something fast.. because with all the hipe these guys are getting I'm not impressed. We need to get them the ball with room to make plays.

Those and the screens to the RBs with blockers out in front is what I want to see. That's how you compensate for a struggling O line.

Well two reasons that I have seen
1. Teams are sitting on the slant (Barber droped one that he would have retuned for a td. They are sitting on them because Gus can't make them pay when the WR beats the cb deap.
2. Gus is very unaccurate he don't put the ball in front of the WR (Brown ran lik a 3 yrd slant and had to make a one handed catch behind him).

most slants are called at the line. however, in linehan's system, when the corner is playing considerably off the line, frerotte will throw a quick screen to chambers so he can make a good run after the catch. i guess this has to do with chambers' problems with taking a hit and dropping the ball. it'd be nice to do it with boston or booker, though, but i only see them doing it with chambers
