Vince Redd, OLB -- Liberty

Redd, who began his college career at Virginia before transferring to Liberty, turned in a workout for the ages. He measured 6-6, weighed in at 263 and then turned in forty times that ranged in the mid-4.5 area, with some stopwatches reading 4.48. He also posted a 39-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-10 broad jump.

As to why he transfered to to Liberty:
Vince Redd actually started some trouble between Al Groh and Danny Rocco. Rocco was the head recruiter and assistant coach under Al Groh but left to be the head coach at Liberty (the same year as Prince left for K-State and Golden and D-Oferio{however you spell it} left for Temple). Rocco then enrolled a bunch of players who were not satisfied with playing time or were kicked out for academics from Virginia, one being Vince Redd. Al Groh felt like Rocco was giving these student atheletes an easy way out of getting bad grades.

I'm not saying waste a high draft pick on him, but if he is there in the 6th or 7th why not give him a shot.

I'd say thats up to the Dolphins....he'll end up where he's worth...he could be a UDFA.

guy looks like a physical freak, could have alot of potential, never heard of him personally.

Here's an interview Vince did for The Football Expert in January
http://www.thefootballexpert.com/vinceredddraftinterview080001.html

Describe your game in three words or less.
Vince Redd: Complete outside linebacker

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a football player and what area do you feel you need to improve in?
Vince Redd: Strengths are my vision and my wingspan and I need to work on my overall strength.

Since you’ve played both Defensive End and Linebacker in college, do you prefer playing one or the other in the pros?
Vince Redd: I prefer playing linebacker because it allows me to do more on the field. I get to pass rush, tackle runners and cover receivers.

Do you prefer playing in a 4-3 defense or a 3-4 defense?
Vince Redd: Defiantly a 3-4 because it allows for more freedom on the field.

What NFL player do you do you think you compare favorably to?
Vince Redd: I don’t know. I think I’m just my own person. I can learn from others in the league but right know I want to concentrate on being me.

Texas vs The Nation

From NFL Draft Scout

02/05/08 - Texas vs. The Nation Review: OLB Vincent Redd (Liberty)-A probably 3-4 outside linebacker who showed good strength on the line during the week and provided run support on the edges on Saturday. Caused a fumble in the game and special teams coverage play because of his length, size and speed. Match up in coverage against WR Danny Amendola was not pretty, though…just doesn't have that sort of change of direction skills.

01/30/08 - Texas vs. The Nation - Nation Wednesday Practice: Played with his hand down in one-on-one's, but did not make much of an impact coming out of his stance. Stood up in scrimmages, though, as he's likely to do for a 3-4 NFL team. Better at using his long arms to stay free of blocks when standing, and has the quickness and hustle to go sideline-to-sideline. Also got back 25 yards in a deep drop, but missed an easy interception to the playful dismay of his teammates.
Redd has two pro days scheduled. March 19 and 28.
