So from what I understand Coyle mostly uses a 4-3 over and 4-3 under for a base defense. In the 4-3 over defense he uses kind of a Kiffin like front where he plays the Will on the strong side and the Sam on the weak side. But unlike most Tampa 2 teams we designate strong side by tight end side where as teams like the Cowboys do it by side with the most receivers.
Anyway the question comes from the way the defense lines up vs a formation where there are 2 wide receivers to one side and a tight end or 2 to the other. As of right now Wheeler plays on the side with the tight ends and either Koa or a safety covers the slot receiver on the receiver side. Why do they do that when Wheeler is better in coverage and Misi is better vs the run? Is it just because Coyle wants to play the 3 technique DT on the tight end side to help stop the run and Wheeler behind him to better keep the linemen off of him?
