In previous seasons we always lost a couple of games to teams with terrible records. This year we didn't, in fact we didn't lose to team with a worse record than us. Four of our seven losses were to teams with 11 wins. We won all the games we were "supposed" to win against inferior teams and blew a few games to teams that are better than us. We are getting better and i believe we have a great team with less depth than other elite teams. We need more depth and upgrades to a few positions then we will be a legit elite Superbowl contending team.

Hang in there Dolphans, the future looks bright.

At this rate, we'll make the playoffs in three or four more years.

I agree, when we suited up our starting 11 we could play with anyone, once injuries started to happen we became a less than average team....we tried to fix our secondary with guys with a history of injuries, we let our CB leave in FA and signed guys who were not as good.....we were stuck with 2 high priced LB that could not be moved and couldn't get it done on the field they had to be part of the rotation......if we fix those problems on D, Coyle can get it done.....on offense we need depth at OL, once Albert went down the OL production went with it, we have a top 10 offense when our OL was healthy.....I'm ok not blowing this up, 7 coaches since 2000 is ridiculous

We won games that meant nothing. And lost games that were crucial. I'd say we stayed stagnant.

So by your logic the first game against New England meant nothing?
At the time that we played them, Chicago and San Diego were both playing well and were favored to beat us.

Believe what you want, but this team is close. And our arrow is pointing up. I think we just need some more depth so that these injuries that seem to happen every year don't hurt us so much.

No my logic is simple. When we beat NE, we got a 1-0 record for our trouble. When they played us again later in the year, ya know in the much more important game, they kicked us like a puppy with down syndrone. And for their trouble, they won the division. Get it? See the difference in magnitude of games? Story of us fer like 15 years now.

I swear people either know NOTHING about football, or they just like to say stupid stuff because it's fun. Dolphins are likely to end up 9-7- there were no meaningless games. The fact is, we did NOT win games that meant nothing. Rather, we LOST some games that meant EVERYTHING.

Give me that Green Bay win, or Detroit, or Broncos and we're probably heading to the playoffs next week.

This year's team won the games that they normally lose. That was nice. Yet, even with beating the teams we should have we are only in position to win 1 more game than last year. Seems that no matter what games we win, we just haven't been able to get over that hump. That's not nice. Things have been slowly looking up and looking bright for as long as I can remember.

I agree that depth will make a world of difference, though. In the middle of the season we went on a 3 game win streak and nearly had a 6 game win streak if we could've pulled out some close wins. But, we lost Albert and our D was just being mowed down by injuries after starting the season strong, and that made a world of difference. Still sad to see the same result after such a fun season with a lot of different looks.

Yea. Notice we have a habit of saying that alot? If you give us this win or that win, or this catch or that penalty, then damn ed if we wouldn't be in the playoffs. When I'm sitting at the house In a few weeks watching other teams in the playoffs AGAIN, I'll sit there thinking about all those meaningful wins while we still get another playoff season of bystanding. While real teams who didn't **** themselves in the most important part of the regular season play for really meaningful games. We are so close, I can just feel it.

Couldn't have said it better. To much Ireland trash still hanging around and hard injury bug doomed our play off chance. Next year this team will have more talent ala Dennis Hickey and a healthy squad and hopefully, the last of the Ireland trash will be gone (see jimmy Wilson).

Way,way to many injuries to can philbin. Glad Ross made this decision.

Every game is important. We and New England were different teams the second game, but both of them were equally important.
Every one of them is important.

Context is everything. The OP has a very valid point.

We are now certain to have our first two non-losing seasons in a row since 2002 and 2003, when we were riding a 15 seasons in a row streak of non-losing seasons and prior to 2002 went to the Play Offs 5 seasons in a row. In the previous 10 seasons, we've recorded losing seasons in 7 of them. Whether we want to admit it or not, this is progress for Miami. The problem is that it isn't enough progress for some. I'm patient enough to subscribe to the view that a losing group have to become steady before they can become good and I credit Philbin for doing that. In a more positive light, we've competed with some real good teams and Hickey put together our best draft in years last season. We could very well be at the start of something good. However, as the OP correctly points out: next season is undoubtedly post season or bust for this group of coaches, and possibly, Tannehill. I like the certainty that this situation presents to this group. You've stabilised things, now it's time to win.

Good points....I do believe next year is the put up or shut up year for this organization.

Another good offseason and draft should find this team ready to reach the contending level.

The recontruction of the O-line should be complete for next season....remember after getting sacked 58 times in 2013 (top ten ever).....Tannehill has gone down 40 more times (5th worst in the league) in 2014....Tannehill's progression and continued growth into knocking on the door of top ten status is remarkable considering this....I look forward to watching his 2015 with a complete line.

We also had impressive victories over New England and San Diego....and near victories against Green Bay, Detroit & Denver.

In 2015....we need to starting owning our home field like contenders do....Home losses to KC & the Ravens knocked us out of the playoffs.
