Christian Ponder(notes) has wasted no time exhibiting the leadership qualities needed for an NFL quarterback. The first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings helped arrange an informal minicamp for himself and a handful of his new teammates this week in Bradenton, Fla.
Ponder even paid for the group to use the IMG football academy facilities, setting up on-field workouts, passing drills and weightlifting sessions, wide receiver Greg Camarillo(notes) said. The workouts began Tuesday, with Ponder, Camarillo, wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux(notes), quarterbacks Rhett Bomar(notes) and Joe Webb(notes), tight end Kyle Rudolph(notes) and center Brandon Fusco(notes).

Love him or hate him, this guy will be successful.

I would have been satisfied with Ponder to be honest. Wasn't really a big fan of the QB's in this past class, but Ponder and Gabbert are two guys that I felt like could succeed in the NFL. Vikings got a good one and have some nice weapons to give to him right away.

I think the Vikings will end up very pleased with there new QB.

is it accurate that Ponder is a highly cerebral kind of player?

If he is, is there a reason he was rated so low by draft analysts? such as physical shortcomings?

Was totally sold on Ponder. Thought the Vikings picking him at 12 was a good move, as they were unable to trade down. Also consider Ponder is a perfect fit for their WCO, so that move made alot of sense to me.

Rumored weak arm and multiple injuries gave him the injury-prone label. The weak arm thing seems inaccurate, but I guess it is to-be-determined on the injury thing...
