I think everyone has now realized that Gibril Wilson is an awful safety. I think the dolphins should move Sean Smith over to FS and put Vontae Davis at cb. He's definitely got the size however i'm not sure if he's ever played FS. I understand they probably wouldn't do it this year since he's still getting accustomed but maybe next year. What's your thoughts? I just know we have to do something about gibril or every team is gonna have a field day against us. GO DOLPHINS!!!!!

by the way: this is my first post so sorry if it sucks. lol

normally this kind of thread can be ridiculous, but it makes some sense to me. smith has shown good coverage skills and we all have seen he is a play maker with exceptional ball skills as well, he could certainly man the deep middle of the field for us and give us a great matchup option, but could he handle the physical game we ask our safeties to play? and would it be worth it...now i am not saying he is or will be a player of this caliber, but it would be nice to have a player who can change the game back there like ed reed.

seriously, why do you guys do this to me? im going to take it easy on you becasue you said its your first post but my god, people really love to post dumb things on this forum.

Last thing we need is another jason allen...meaning lets have him perfect one position before moving him to another.

Since it is your first post, I am not going to give you a hard time. But its definitely a bad idea to disrupt the growth of our best CB who is going to develop into a star sooner than later. If anything give Clemmons a shot, give (I hate to say this) JA another chance, or trade a late pick for a potential replacement. Moving Smith would be a terrible idea, we must let him bloom. For this reason alone I don't want to see #24 on offense, either. At least for a few years.

don't discount the man for being a fool, both our safeties are more in the box type players and not as good in coverage as they are around the line of scrimmage. im not saying it is going to happen or even it should, or i want it to, but the man has an opinion on what looks like a viable option to me. nothing more nothing less.

You nailed it. Agree with your post 100%.

I'm not ready to give up on Wilson just yet but if anybody was gonna move I think it would be Davis. I also think Clemons would be the first choice anyway and obviously.

It might be a good idea if Smith wasn't playing so well at corner. But he is playing well so, we shouldn't mess with that. Find somebody else to fill that position...or light a fire under gibril to get him up to par.

I cant beleive most of you want wilson out and are saying he´s the worst safety bla bla bla its only been two games geez give the guy the season before you start making your decisions you know players are people too they´re not perfect you have your days and sometimes you dont he´s better than freaking JA and JA somehow someway is still on this roster

Smith is an excellent athlete. Big, smooth, fast. But a great tackler he definitely isn't. In fact, he's probably the worst tackler on the starting defense. He doesn't show great technique or even a particular amount of "want to."

As a safety, this aspect of his skill set would be far more exposed.

For example, last year our two starting safeties (Bell and Hill), combined for 160 tackles.

How many tackles did our two starting CBs (Allen and Goodman) get? 75.

You see what I mean. This defense, even more than most, asks the safeties to tackle a lot. Bell, in fact, led the team in tackles (though that certainly had something to do with Crowder getting hurt). That's the reason we brought Wilson over. He's supposed to be a great tackler. He just hasn't been, yet.

Like Sam Madison, tackling just isn't Smith's strong suit. He hasn't been exposed yet for it, but rest assured, it'll happen. Vontae Davis (an exceptional tackler) might one day project to safety, but this early in his career he's better off at a position that's harder to play from a physical and mental (resiliency-wise) standpoint: corner.

I didn;'t exactly get a chance to see the replays of some of the Colt's big plays but could one of our OLB's be responsible for bad coverage on the TE? I know that the safety ought to provide help over the top but could it all have been prevented with better OLB play?

Also, I do realize a large percentage of our OLB play is based on pressuring the QB but could it even be predictable play calling that made it obvious that our OLB was not in coverage? These are all just possibilities. I have been away from FH for a while... football and school (especially pre-calc) has been taking it's toll on my free time so this may not be an up to par post of what I used to write.

I wonder if there's a way to have Smith cover A. Gates on obvious passing downs (kinda like nickel and dime spot duty).

couldn't tackle him if he DID catch it (without luck) but Smith is the only guy on the team that could possibly cover a tight end. won't happen though.
