Wade Phillips IS interviewing in Tampa Bay tomorrow. Also, the Rams are meeting with the Saints offensive line/run game coach Aaron Kromer tomorrow in San Francisco. I thought teams weren't allowed to interview assistants and yet the are. Leads me to believe Carmichael Jr is nowhere on Miami's list.

If this isnt the right forum please move.

The Phillips interview is no longer happening because he pulled his name out per Schefter. Still, he was all set to interview. I don't get it.

Coaches with teams in the playoffs are allowed to interview for head coaching jobs. Many choose not to do so because they do not want to be a distraction for their team.

Edit: wanted to add, a coach can be interviewed at any time. Dan Synder tried to hire Mike Shanahan after a week 3 loss.

Then why has the perception always been you couldn't? Thanks for the insight tho.

I apologize that I don't have a link but I did read that there is a a small open period throughout that week prior to the game that they are allowed to interview, and any day during a week off (1st rd byes & week before SB). However most do not ask out of respect. That's what I remember reading may not be accurate but makes sense to me.

Not sure about a perception about how they "couldnt", but perhaps its a perception of why they "shouldnt". I recall when the Patriots failed at perfection that Josh McDaniels was scheduled to interview for a few jobs during their bye week, but changed his mind at the last minute to spend extra time with the team. Bilicheat made a big deal out of it.

As well, you never want to appear like your leaving your guys hanging for your own advancement. Could be viewed as distasteful by your future employeer. Example of that: Hue Jackson.

Hold up...

Wait a minute...

Wade Phillips...a piss poor head coach who is lucky to even get interviews is planning on interviewing for a head coaching job in Tampa while coaching defense in Houston two days before a huge playoff game?

Is this guy an idiot or what? Shouldn't you be spending every waking minute trying to figure out how to stop that Ray Rice guy?

Fans want us to interview coaches from other teams in the playoffs, but if one of our guys was doing it this place would not only blow up, but the suicide rate in Florida would be through the roof.
