For every good move the Dolphins made, they made some bad moves as well. The question is which will be more prominent in the 2013 season? How bad will the bad moves end up being?
They gave $60 million, $30 million of which is guaranteed, to a player that declined tremendously last year.
Next is replacing Dansby and Burnett with Ellerbe and Wheeler was the biggest mistake made this past off season. Even though Wheeler lead the team with 109 tackles, he's been a disaster because most of those tackles take place 7-yards down-field. His instincts as a linebacker are poor. And his shortcomings in coverage has exposed strong safety Reshad Jones, who also can't cover down-field. Also replacing run stuffer Tony McDaniel, who is now a starter (49 tackles, two sacks) for the Seattle Seahawks Vaughn Martin was a terrible idea.
Making matters worse, general manager Jeff Ireland back loaded all of these deals, so the Dolphins will be in terrible salary cap position in 2014 and 2015. Thus, after a disappointing 2013 campaign, they could be bad for a long time. Wallace has a cap hit of like 17m next season. He isn't going anywhere or getting anything done with his deal. So is Ellerby and Wheeler.
Forget about firing Jeff Ireland or even Joe Philbin for that matter so far it looks like it ain't happening. Either way, how do you propose fixing this mess?
What mess ?
