If this needs to be moved than so be it, but I gotta ask this.

I just read that Dwayne Bowe got a ONE game suspension for an arrest involving marijuana. That means he was caught with a substance that is illegal on a Federal level. Yet Jordan and Jones (sounds like a law firm) get suspended for FOUR games for something the NFL has deemed illegal. I don't know about you, but if an arrest record was generated by one action then that should out weigh the action that did NOT produce an arrest record. It just doesn't seem fair to me that the guy who got arrested gets off with a slap on the wrist and our guys get the raw end of the deal. I don't care what effect the substances has on the player. Bowe was arrested for a substance that is illegal on a Federal level. Our guys are in trouble for something that is banned on a corporate level. Seems the punishments don't fit the crimes.

EDIT: Let it be clear that I think ANYONE who gets in trouble with the law should be punished the same as someone who uses PEDs. I don't care if it was drunk driving, battery, smoking weed, any of it. If it produces an arrest record they should be punished just like anyone else if not more so than those who don't get arrested. You start punishing the guys who get arrested on a regular basis like you do those that get in trouble for banned things by the League they might actually stop and think first before doing something stupid off the field.

so you are ok w/ 4+ game suspensions for first time offenses involving marijuana? we won't have a league to watch if that is the case.

Actually to be suspended for marijuana it would mean he has multip.le violations, the first violation creates a warning and extra monitoring. PED's bring into question the integrity of the game, where as recreation drugs and alcohol offenses don't. Look at how the baseball world looks at the difference between Barry Bonds' situations and Dwight Gooden's.

How do you know our guys are banned for something on a corporate level. Steroids are controlled subtsances just like Marijuana. We have no clue what Jordan or Jones were banned for drug wise so you cant just say they were banned for something that is only against the NFL corporate level.

You also realize why PEDS are a big deal, it has to do with so called integrity of the game. THE NFL should be harsher on PEDS than somebody that had marijuana in their possession.

Read what I said, our guys didn't generate an arrest record. I wouldn't care so long as Bowe was dealt out the same punishment as our guys. My problem here is the NFL seems to give guys that get into legal trouble a slap on the wrist yet severely punish those that are only in trouble at the League level. Those that get in trouble with the law should be punished just like those that get punished for PEDs. It ALL effects the integrity of the game and it should all be treated equally.

By the way a marijuana violation would have resulted in a longer suspension last year - prior to recent changes in the leagues drug policy. With marijuana being legal in some states the NFL had to re-address it's policy. You can't really do policy based on the fact that he got arrested or not. Can the league really threat a player busted with marijuana in KC any different than a player in Denver just because it's legal in Colorado?

which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The NFL doesn't have to adhere to the laws changing is some of the states. Heck, the whole US could legalize MJ, and the nfl could still say no to it's teams/players. plus, if bowe was doing it legally, in a legal state, then he wouldn't have gotten arrested...

Honestly i dont think anything non-league related should be suspendable. Leave a pot bust up to the authorities, or a battery charge to the police. The Bowe 1 game suspension and the Rice 2 game suspension is the NFL trying to look good in the public eye. The 4 Game PED suspensions are to police the league rules that every play has to abide by to maintain the integrity of the game.

If all 50 states made marijuana legal the NFL would have a hard time saying the players could not use it. It would be a lot like alcohol, the team could say we don't what you under the influence at work but we can't police what you do legally in the off season.

Suspensions from the league probably have more to do with the agreement between the nfl and the nflpa. The language in the agreement from the players union bears some weight. I agree that ped's though change the outcome of games to the extent of creating an uneven playing field or advantage/disadvantage and absolutely need to be monitored closely and fairly and some form of consistent punishment is necessary.
