Since Sean Payton used to be Parcell's QB Coach/Offensive Coordinator, there's a level of familiarity and trust there.

If I'm Parcells I call up Payton and say hey, I hear you're talking to St Louis about possibly trading up to #2 to get Glenn Dorsey.
He's a local hero and probably the best player in the draft at the position of your biggest need.

Here's what we're willing to do.
We'll trade you our #1 AND Jason Taylor for your #1, #2, and #1 and #4 next year.
You get two studs for the weakest part of your team, and you can make your deep playoff run while Drew Brees is still in his prime.

We get to pick at #10 where there will still be a very good left tackle prospect available...and that's a spot where we could possibly trade back again to accumulate more picks if Sedrick Ellis falls or there's a run on the top CB's in the draft.

We also get the #10 pick in the 2nd round, which would net us a very good pick in a deep draft or give us some ammo to trade back into the 1st if there's a guy there that we think has slipped to the point where he's a great value.

Basically it works out for us to be #10 in the 1st and #10 in the 2nd round, plus a 4 next year for the 1st overall pick, and a 1st next year for Jason Taylor (which is likely the maximum value we'll get for him)
We still get to draft in the top 10 OR be in a position to trade down for more picks in a year where there's alot of talent to be had in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.

New Orleans meanwhile goes from having probably the weakest D-line in the NFC to one of the best, and their offense was already good, so now they can make a deep playoff run, and JT gets to play for a contender.

Win, win, win across the board IMO.

Of course I probably shouldn't post these ideas I come up with in the shower when I'm really tired. :D

Not only that but we could do the Saints one better and negotiate the contract with Dorsey ahead of time. Since we're playing so many players and agents against each other we could likely get him to sign for less than he would get if New Orleans traded up to get him and THEN had to sign him.

That would help out with taking on JT's 7.5M salary and the financial impact of #1 versus #10.

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Will it happen i dont know but we would have alot of picks if we did do that.

I dont like it. Good concept... but I think we need more.

Future picks are worth a round less than ones in the current draft. For instance, the 1st and 4th next year are worth a 2nd and 5th. And isnt that what we want for JT by himself?

So essentially, we are trading down from #1 to #10, for just a 2nd rounder.

Thats not enough IMO...

Maybe a 1st and 2nd this year, and a 1st and 2nd next year...

I would love this trade. The only downfall is that at pick #10, we would not be able to get JTs immediate replacement like we would be able to at #1.

how the heck is that true if the patriots had sanfranscicos first round pick and its still number 7 ??? makes no sense

You missunderstood what he was saying. Next year's first round pick is only worth this year's second round pick. So if there is going to be a trade that's how you equate the value. I don't know what you read, but you made a mistake. San Francisco's first round pick this year was only worth a second round pick last year during that trade. There is more value in the players you immediately get.

I think trading away some of this year's picks for something in a higher round (Or more picks) next year could be good for Miami. Realistically Miami is still a couple of years from being a good team and it's important to get value from the picks this year. If the draft doesn't seem as if it's going to hold the solution to many personnel problems, it would make a lot of sense to get better picks next year for potentially unproductive picks this season. Although, having written that, one also can't keep putting things off and off and always be looking to the future. With the draft so close and important to a team like Miami, let's all hope it turns out to be a good one.

At this point I might take a bag of peanuts to get out of the 1st pick. I like the trade, think we might need a little more and didn't the Saints recently sign both of their DE's to big-time contracts, wouldn't think they would want another high-priced DE.

I honestly don't like this idea either. Besides, if New Orleans really makes that deep playoff run, their 1st next year might be a high 20 pick or even worse, from 30 to 32. That's basically not what I would like to see for our 1st overall this year.

either way its 2 first rounders next year, our second, our third, and 2 fourths. we wont rebuild in one season, but this would really help our cause, that being said ittle never happen. i dont see Saints giving up that much.

The Cowboys have two 1st rounders THIS year and I wouldn't trade them for our #1 pick.

then that makes 1 out of the thousands of ppl on this site, and one of the picks is gaurenteed to be low because we wont make the playoffs or be a contender this year

That's too much work . All we have to do is let out a little smoke and say ATL or KC has contacted us about our first rounder and then N.O. will come to us instead of us going to them and we can keep Taylor and trade him outright.

I'v heard people say this before and I dont buy into it, all the teams that have 2 first rounders have so much luxury in the first round its such a huge advantage and they always end up taking huge advantage of it. Bottom line is its a 1st and a 4th its not worth anything less than that next year it will still be a a first and a 4th.

Obviously in order to get a coveted pick this year and had to mortage the future the future picks would hold less value but i dont think it loses a round value you to team acquiring the picks those picks hold value to them, it loses value if your the team trading it away basically because in negotiation the team acquiring the pick would expect to get more if they have to wait to use the pick, which is fine because you can get a first round pick for cheaper than any other time of the year for, basically 1/2 the price. The patriots do this more than any other team and it always pays off for them.
