QB-slash-WR
As always, I have to preface this with "I didn't get to watch the Phins b/c I live in NYC." I was stuck watching the Bills blow it vs. the Jets...thank you, Dick Jauron. Jerk.
Anyway, just from the highlights, I saw Jake Long make two heads-up plays...on the Haynos TD, he was left w/ no one to block b/c the DE stunted inside. Jake looks in, and gives the DE just enough of a shove to slide him past Pennington on Pennington's right side. The fact that he recognized what was happening and made the right play is amazing. The kid doesn't play like a rookie.
On Ronnie Brown's 18 yard run in the 4th, Long shoved his guy into the backfield, knowing the dude wouldn't get to Ronnie to make the tackle, then blocked him again to prevent a pursuit angle when there was no one on the second level to go after.
I'm not saying he's the greatest LT in the league or anything, but the kid is good. I hope he keeps getting better...it's refreshing to see a rookie come in and excel this way.
